    read the following in toshiba's website:

    "Conventional oxide crts begin to decline in their light output by 10% after the 1st 2000 hours of use."

    I also talked to a salesman and he said that rptv's picture quality will begin to decline after a couple of years.

    If this is a fact, does it affect all kinds of tvs or rptv only?

    Greetings

    It is generally expected that an RPTV crt will lose about 50% of its light output ability in the first year or so ... after which, it settles down and stays at about that same 50% level for most of its life ... then it falls off again right at the end.

    If you set the TV up correctly in the beginning, you may never notice this happening in ...

    I've seen some TV's calibrated by others some 12 to 15 months prior to me being called in and those sets had experienced this light output drop.

    Regards

    What about the Tosh Pegasus II? They claim that it will remain the same for 50000 hours.

    Since no rptv seems to survive beyond 20000 hr anyways ... it is a moot point.

    20K = 20 years ... 50k = 50 years ... you gotta be kidding.

    Regards
