I apologize in advance if there is already a thread on this show. I did a search but nothing appeared from what I could see.

Does anyone know why there are absolutely no DVD releases for Your Show of Shows with full episodes? Better yet obviously would be to have the series released in season sets.

All that is available are compilations of individual sketches under titles such as “The Sid Caesar Collection”. I passed on those now out of print DVDs years ago because I want to watch the episodes in their entirety, just as they were originally broadcast.

For a series so highly regarded, it's a shame Your Show of Shows has such a scattered history on home video.

At the time they did the Show of Shows DVDs, "best of" sets were pretty common for old TV shows. Also, I suspect like with the Jack Benny Show, commercials were integrated into the show itself, making them difficult to remove... and get permission to use from the sponsor. I'm sure cigarette sponsors would prefer we just forget their old ads. That is just a guess though.

No, commercials are not integrated, they would cut away the same way Gleason did.

The show's overall survival rate (as with "Caesar's Hour") is excellent (some reports say only ONE episode is missing in any form.) The Paley Center holds a chunk of the series as well. So complete episodes exist, and could be released if there was interest - barring the usual clearances for music, etc. Infact after the "Ten From Your Shows of Show" compilation film, they cut together a syndication package of complete segments.

But why it hasn't been done, who knows. "Video Yesteryear" released an episode on Tape back in the 1980's along with a couple of episodes of "Caesar's Hour"!

I still miss "Video Yesteryear", "Radio Yesteryear", "Radiola Records", and "Sandy Hook Records". :-(
