New to the forum, first post. Looking for anyone having experience with GoldenEar SuperSats.
What I'm REALLY looking for is what I will be replacing my 10-year old Infinity's with. Currently running a 5.1 system with a Denon AVRX2000 and just added a new Sony 55" Bravia with 4K - now my picture is better than my sound! AVR is fine, just need some new speakers.
The 10-year old Infinity's are Primus 250 towers (kinda small, IMO) in the front, a matching center, and 150's for the two surrounds. Two 10" subs round out the sound nicely. Doesn't sound too bad, really, but man; that 4K picture deserves better. These Infinity's have been abused - one of my AVR's had a serious problem some time back, the speakers survived somehow, but I can't imagine they came away unscathed. Really, they just sound dull to me.
Looked at new towers for a while; caught wind of GoldenEar and thought I'd have a look. Tracing the history of Sandy Gross (founder of GoldenEar) back a ways through Def Tec and Polk (two brands I'd also been looking at), seems GoldenEar offers a quality product from a guy who aparently knows his stuff about loud speakers. I also looked at Paradigm - nice stuff for a decent price. Martin Logan? NICE, WAY out of my current budget, but man; those ribbon tweeters sounded very nice.
Hmmm... GoldenEar has ribbons... So I looked at GoldenEar again and thought; what if I did satellite speakers this time around? Those would be in my budget...
I've got plenty of bass with my two subs, and have a pair of Def Tec ProMonitor 800's on the way that will be replacing the current Infinity surrounds, so why don't I give satellites a shot for my front LCR. Question is; is there really an appreciable difference between the SS3's and the SS50's that justifies doubling the price? ($250/ea vs $500/ea) I need 3, so that's 1500 clams if I go with the 50's! Only $750 if I go with the 3's. That's a BIG difference in price.
Anyone have opinions on the SS3's or SS50's?
