All,

I have been out of the HT/audio world since around 2006ish. My previous setup is below. I used to have a Denon 5.1 receiver but about 5 years ago I bought this Onkyo SR-705. I had not had a large need to upgrade my setup but I'm finishing my basement into a "HT room". If I were to upgrade, I probably wouldn't want to spend more than $800 this go around.
Onkyo SR-705 Receiver (7.1, THX Certified)Polk Audio CSi3 Center ChannelPolk Audio RTi8 Front Tower Speakers (built in subs)Polk Audio RTi6 Bookshelf Speakers used in rearAlso, if I do consider keeping this, I'm considering using some speakers from a Logitech Z-5500 at my 6/7.1 speakers....thoughts??? Or should I go with more RTi6's???

If you recommend a new HTIB, which one???

Thanks in Advance

This is NOT HTiB. Which is a good thing. Is there something you need that 705 doesn't provide?(more HDMI likely)Yes, more RTi6.

Forget the HTIB idea and the Logitech speakers as 6/7's. And there's nothing wrong with your current setup if it sounds good to you and you don't need the whizz-bang features or Height/Width speakers of a newer receiver. You could also use a pair of RTi4's for the 6/7. A little smaller and a little cheaper.

RTi8's with a built sub? Were they modified somehow? If you want a real home theater experience then I'd spend a bulk of that $800 on a real subwoofer. And a decent bluray player if you don't have one already.

Thanks for the reply guys! I purchased this setup back in 2004/2005. I was not sure if there were break through technology in speakers. I was living back and forth through apartments for many years as I wanted to live near central Denver and buying is unaffordable. I now was able to afford to buy a nice house and finish out the basement for my media room. I was incorrect about the RTi8,,,,the tower speakers are actually RTi100's.

The 705 offers plenty of HDMI inputs, definitely 1 or 2 more than I currently need.

I don't have a blue ray but fully plan on getting one shortly when I get a new TV for downstairs. Also looking into a new TV as the 50inch I have is a 720p/1080i (from 2006). Is it worth it to step up to a 4k for the price??? Considering just getting a 65inch Samsung 1080p with 240hz+. I've always been a panny plasma guy but it looks like panny's are out of the market now. Any education on TV's would be great. Looking for a 65 inch.

4k, right now, is half-baked.4K BD won't be out till next Christmas. Spend your $800 on a sub...then sit tight till next year...(pick up more RTi as well...)

Another speaker question, I have received a pair of Tannoy Saturn S6 towers for free from an extremely wealthy friend. Should I use these rather than my polk RTi-100's towers???
