okkk soo ive read a shitload of forums and articles...im soo confused right now
ok i have movies with DTS 5.1 sountrack and movies with AC-3(dolby digital) soundtrack
and i also have a onkyo receiver which has all dobly/dts decoders etc except THX ...(but i dont use THX so its fine)
oh and also my system in 7.1
so i want to watch 5.1 movies in 7.1 system
when i play the movie with Dolby ac3 (5.1) soundtrack
it says
1)dolby D ..which gives output 5.1(dont need this)
2)Dolby D ex which gives output 7.1
3)dolby Prologic IIx which also gives output 7.1
4)neo:6 WHICH also gives 7.1
and others like all channel stereo...direct etc ( which also i dont need)
so i want to utilize all my speakers....which is the best setting among these...(dolby D ex or dolby prologic IIx or neo:6) and what are the difference among them
thats for dolby sound
now onto DTS...
when i put a movie with DTS sound
i get the following options
1)neo:6 which gives 7.1
2)Dolby D Ex which gives 7.1
3)DTS which gives 7.1
4)Dolby prologic IIx which also gives 7.1
among others like all channel stereo..direct....(i dont need these)
now which among these are good for watching dts 5.1 on a 7.1 system (neo:6 or dolby D ex or olby prologic IIx or DTS)
ANYONE WHO KNOWS THIS

It all maters what sounds best to you.I have 7.1 system myself and my receiver stays on the Dolby Pro Logic llx setting 90% of the time. Now, a movie that says it was mixed Dolby 5.1 or DTS 5.1 will play just fine in a 7.1 system. The only thing is that the pro logic setting that you have it set to will create a mix for those 2 additional speakers. The other 2 setting that you had mentioned "neo:6" is the DTS equivalent to Dolby pro logic llx pretty much. Then Dolby Digital Ex adds one singular surround channel to your setup. If you want to utilize ALL speakers at ALL times, then I would stick with Dolby Pro Logic llx. If that doesn't fit the bill for you, then just stick with Dolby Digital. 80% of movies are mixed in strictly 5.1 anyways. It's only been recently that Blu-Rays have started to be mixed in 7.1.

Yes, It will just be decoded via DD rather than DTS which is fine. Just different codecs and fancy terminology. Enjoy!
