Everybody has their price for a Blu-ray they really want.

Sometimes I forego an initial release and decide to sit
and wait until that title comes down to a reasonable price.

Finally, this week, one of my most sought after catalog releases
came down to reasonable discount....

Cost today: $14.95

Been wanting this title on Blu-ray since it was originally released
about two-three years ago (I believe).

It was priced rather high then. I think the price tag was about $30,

Since that release there was a cheaper repackaged version costing
about $20. About a week ago, it dropped to $9.95.

...but it wasn't the deluxe 100th Anniversary series release with the booklet.

Just by chance, I did an Amazon search today and found that this very
special 100th Anniversary deluxe edition dropped to just under $15.

So, what did you finally get at a bargain after waiting
for the price to drop? How long did you wait for that discount?

It started I see at $240, and I bought it 5 years later for $59.99!
Although, I hadn't realised that it was released so long ago.
I thought it was just released 2 years ago..

I hope I won't wait for Batman 5 years also...

About a year ago, I thought $30 a pop was a good deal for the original Star Trek bluray season sets. It was great to watch them again. (Maybe I should have waited another year).

Recently I found season 1 of Star Trek Enterprise for $15 in a local bargain bin. It was a lucky chance find.

I usually don't have the patience, or self control to make this question relevant to myself. When I can wait, it usually is for content that I've already experienced in some form. Case in point...

Probably the closest fit was waiting for a Gold Box deal on Amazon for the complete James Bond set for $99.00. This was around Christmas of the same year the set was released.

I won't bother putting up cover art, but I got the complete series runs of The Twilight Zone ($90), Star Trek TOS ($30), and The Dick Van Dyke Show ($60) all for a pittance of what they were originally going for. In each case, the wait was about two years, but I had the DVDs of them to tide me over until I found a price point I could live with.

Anybody notice that "Batman" the TV series jumped from $188 to $268 today?Oh and ditto getting my copy of Star Trek TOS Blu a lot cheaper ($59.99) than the original list price. Now watching price drops for Star Trek TNG.Same for Rodgers & Hammerstein Collection ($49.99).

^ It's back down to $190 now.
I'm an Amazon Prime member, so I'm locked into whatever the low price between now and street date(Nov. 11th)is...this wait has more than 3 and a half months to go, so I'm sitting pretty in the catbird seat and being patient...

I have also had several titles that I waited on and later got great deals. Among the ones I can think of:

To Kill a Mockingbird - I also wanted it at a good price, and finally got it for $12.99 during a Fry's weekend sale.

Bond 50 set - $73.99 during a Fox Connect sale.

Ben-Hur and Lawrence of Arabia Box o'junk sets - at Fry's for around $30 each.

Dick Van Dyke Show Complete - $54.00 shipped.

I also jumped on the recent Rodgers & Hammerstein set during the Amazon $50 deal.

I have probably paid more than I should just as often because I couldn't wait; so it probably evens out in the end.

Re the To Kill a Mockingbird BD: funny this was one of the oldest titles on my amazon Wish List, been there ever since the SE DVD was issued, then I added the BD when that came out...either was never inexpensive here.

They had a digibook sale late last year at amazon.ca, when most were CDN$11. So I finally got the Uni 100th BD digibook (50th for the movie), along with The Sting one (also a long-time list-dweller) and a bunch of others.

Perhaps the digibook/title I was happiest to get was The Man Who Would Be King @ CDN$14. Also Deliverance, as it was the only way to get the latest BD version then.

Edit: yeah those last two aren't really "deals", just me being cheap... :) Proper deals were box o' junk things that I didn't want, but I wanted the titles: Amazing Spiderman (3D, with figurine etc.) for $10, Ben Hur box for $26, Sound of Music box for $20. All the WB "double feature" titles for $7: I have lots of them, how can you beat Ben Hur/Ten Commandments (4 BDs...yes a re-buy of BH but TC is way more alone here) or Casablanca/African Queen for $7?
