Hello,
We just bought a home which has a media room. The past owner took away the projector and the screen but left the 7.1 speaker system behind. We want to hook up the electronics to have HT room.

size of the media room is 18X17. I have attached a picture of the media room as well.

However I am not too aware of the stuff needed. Read through the forums and figured out that I need the below 3 for sure

1. screen
2. projecter
3. AV receiver.

I was looking thorugh craigslist for the above and found these. Please let me know if they are good for the price quoted or should I get new ones(please recommend)

Carada 118 Inch Diagonal Criterion Series Projection Screen - 1.78 to 1 - 600$
Panasonic PT-AE4000U - 700$ (lamp has 549 hours on it)

My budget for screen, projector and AV receiver is 2000$. Please recommend any good new ones I can buy.

I would really appreciate anyone helping me with these questions.

Thanks,
Sumana

The arrangement mostly. It even appears they mounted the center in-ceiling...over the couch. The main two are still by the screen.

I would buy a new front speaker collection as well. You can get an LCR bar to mount under the screen. If you can find an AT screen that fits your budget...you can mount flat speakers(like the KEF T) behind it...or the same LCR bar.

At least if you do things "right"...it is already set up for Atmos.

As for projector...we need to know how far that ceiling is from the wall, before the slant. I have no idea if the 4000 works...as I have no idea the distance.

The 4000 needs around 12' to provide 118". (and that is using the closest zoom...projectors work best when set at their farthest...not closest)

The room is 18 feet long. So the distance between the screen and backwall is 18 feet
Is that 18' where the slant starts?Basically trying to determine if those stairs are off to the side enough a projector can use the whole room.

the slant is not starirs, it is just the ceiling. yes they are to a side and the projector can use the whole room.

We are planning to paint the room. I have asked the person for the material type. Waiting for the reply.

That is 2/3 new. I've no experience with Carada(I typically use woven AT screens from Stewart and Screen Research).I'd unroll it(take cotton gloves with you, you can NOT touch the screen face) to make sure there are no creases. And have help installing it. 2 person job.
