A thought on Fox's delayed titles (1 Viewer)

I just read that the Panasonic Blu-Ray player will not be able to decode DTS Master Lossless Audio after all, even with a firmware update. I was wondering if the reason Fox has been delaying all of their titles is to substitute PCM 5.1 tracks instead. If I read correctly, no player is going to be able to decode DTS MA for some time now. Warner had a PCM 5.1 track on The Departed. Why? Because no Blu-Ray player can decode TrueHD; so it's possible Fox is doing the right thing and just putting the raw uncompressed sound on the disc now. Just a thought...

That's "Universal hasn't announced a list because they're planning to switch to BD"-level speculation.

Jason, I couldn't agree with you more.

With the very agressive release schedule some of these studios has put out, it is not unusual for delays to happen. Most likely Fox's delayed release schedule has to do with scheduling issues and/or Master issues or delays. All of these studios have experienced delays in their schedules for these reasons. I find it funny that at the first sign of delays, concern is voiced. We have lived with pushed release dates from the start of the DVD days, and will continue to see releases delayed from time to time. It normally means nothing at all. Certainly nothing to get concerned about.

Yea, but Fox is delaying many more titles than any other studio. If this situation was more widespread across other studios I would agree with you, but Fox definitely has some sort of issue that's holding them back.

AKA Fox shot their mouths off by announcing more discs than they could handle at this time and now will use the hacker excuse as the reason why they bit off more than they can chew.;)

From what I've read, the problems with the Panasonic lie with DTS-MA being more hardware intensive than expected. I wonder if Panasonic will offer some sort of chip-replacement?

The PS3 has plenty of hardware to process DTS-MA. I doubt Fox would redo their entire schedule due to one particular player.

One of Fox's main concerns was piracy. This is why when Blu-Ray promised BD+ they decided to be exclusive to it. To think that the recent failure of AACS doesn't weigh into Fox's plans right now is naive. I'm sure that if there were any reason whatsover to delay a title right now, Fox wouldn't mind at all.

The one thing that has stood out in my mind lately is how slow any response to the AACS failure has been. Other then an acknowledgement of the problem, we haven't seen any kind of response in just over 2 months. At some point fairly soon a fix is either going to have to show up, or they'll just have to admit AACS as it stands is just broken.

It could be that reason, or it could be, IMHOn any of the following:
  1. Master aren't ready
  2. Production issues
  3. Normal schedule shuffeling
  4. Hype on releases at CES that were never goiing to make the initial release date
  5. Rethinking HD positioning
  6. Resheduling for better sales impact
  7. add your on reason here.
Just trying to say it is all speculation, founded on little or no information. Every time a release is scraped, we seem to argue the same points, and sooner or later the releases appear back on the schedule.

When Universal faultered in releasing their schedule, the same arguments arose. Maybe we are just expecting too much too soon from these studios. I know I have been an offender of that notion. But it would be nice, if when they delay a release, they would give a reason. Certainly that would not hurt their cause. But when they don't, the discussions tend to be negative to the studio, and could hurt them in the long term.

So let me get this straight...Fox is concerned about the AACS hack so they choose to delay a bunch of catalog titles like Commando, Silence Of the Lambs, Mr & Mrs Smith, From Hell, Dances With Wolves, The Fly...yet they DO release new releases like Eragon and Night At the Museum?!? Does that make sense to anyone, because I find it very hard to believe. I still say Fox never intended on releasing all these titles, but simply wanted to make the big splash at CES. Now they only look like a bunch of fools (which Mike Dunn appropriately IS)!
