What do you want me to do, dress in drag and do the hula? (quote from The Lion King)

[c]Posted Image[/c]

Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed advertisements, the Sunday of the week of release (so as to catch any week-of-release sale prices). All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price. If a price is marked "$_N/A_" in the grid, it means that this title is not shown as available on that chain's website or perhaps in their ads...but it COULD still be in-stores!

$_"LP" means the advertisement says "Low Price", and $_"HP" means the advertisement says "Hot Price". Use of either of these in the Roundup grid indicates that I could not locate a definate price for the item, and the ad is all I have to go on. Retailers use these phrases in advertisements so that they do not violate MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) agreements with the studios. Doing so can cost them thousands or even millions of dollars in co-op advertising funds.

I only include the titles I feel like including. In fact, the titles are pretty much the ones I'm personally interested in, with few exceptions. I don't get paid for this, and I don't have time to devote to doing every DVD. I have a lovely wife and a five-year-old son I'd rather spend time with. Please don't complain. If there is a title not included in the Roundup that you want to see, just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone...like I do!

Note that Circuit City does not guarantee their sale prices in Hawaii.

* BE CAREFUL! Down With Love, The In-Laws (2003), The Italian Job (2003), A Christmas Story, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, & National Lampoon's Vegas Vacation are all available in both Widescreen and Fullscreen versions...get the correct one.

* Non-OAR discs are left off the Roundup, whenever they've been identified in advance. Example: Alien from L.A., Impulse. This does NOT apply to markdowns, which are simply cut-and-paste from other lists.

* Target's "Low Price" for both The Lion King and The Italian Job is almost certainly $15.99 in both cases. That's the price I'm using in the Roundup. There are no warranties, express or implied, that this price (or any other price) is what you will find in-stores.

* Best Buy is giving away a free Lion King mousepad that is also a calendar when you purchase The Lion King.

* Best Buy is offering to sell you the Toshiba Portable DVD Player, Model #SD-P1200 (7" 16x9 active matrix screen, 3.5 hour rechargable battery, stereo speakers) for $499.99, and they will give you a free Disney DVD of your choice (excluding box sets) that is coded from the Disney section of their stores. They specifically point out that The Lion King is included in this offer.

* Best Buy is giving away a free DVD called "Coming Attractions, Vol. 1" with the purchase of any movie, CD, or videogame/PC game. It's chalk full of trailers and samples. "Limit 1 per customer".

* Best Buy RewardZone members may want to try to do the bulk of their purchases on Sundays or Mondays this month: All October long, purchases on those days earn double points.

* Circuit City will give you a free AM/FM radio with earphones. "In-store only. While supplies last." They also offer 10% off of any DVD player if you are purchasing The Lion King at the same time.

* Costco: Their website states that pre-orders of The Lion King will be fulfilled along with a certificate that can be redeemed in the warehouse locations (not through the website) for a free copy of one of the following Disney Sing-Along Songs DVDs: Sing-Along Songs: Sing a Song With Pooh Bear & Piglet Too; Very Merry Christmas Sing-Along Songs; Sing-Along Songs: The Lion King Circle of Life. I don't know if there is an in-store version of this offer for non-preorders; you'll have to check your local Costco warehouse.

The latest markdowns according to VideoTropics web site (DVD Title/Old SRP/New SRP):

VeggieTales: The Star of Christmas $19.98 $14.98

David, ill also add something i saw at the other forum. Buy lion king at circuit city for 14.99 and get a free am/fm radio with headphones, minimum 30 per store. Ill be sure to get there bright and early on tuesday , even though i have my lion king preordered at suncoast, i could use the second lion king for a gift to someone and keep the radio. Ill also get down with love, but will wait a while to get the new vacation flicks. Thanks David.

I believe you're right, Malcolm! I'll fix that in a moment.

Tony, I could find NOTHING about that radio thing. It's not in their ad or on their website or anyplace else official. A store supervisor knew nothing about it. So someone's gotta prove to me that it's real.

I plan to buy my Lion King at Wal-Mart; I'm sure it will be $14.24 or lower.

David, its even at circuit citys online ad about the radio. When you get to the site, click on where it says to make the front page bigger to see it.

Yep, the free AM/FM radio w/ earphones is in the small print under the $14.99 tag on the front page of the Circuit City ad in my local paper. "In-store only. While supplies last."

"Chalk full," eh, Dave? Heh heh.

Thanks Dave. I'm planning on buying 'Lion King' at Wal-Mart and using the CC ad on the very unappreciated 'Willard' for $16.99.

Can't wait until next week...

There's Jessie the yodeling cowgirl. Bullseye, he's Woody's horse. Pete the old prospector. And, Woody, the man himself.Of course, it's time for Woody's RoundUp. He's the very best! He's the rootinest, tootinest cowboy in the wild, wild west!

Hey, Dave! Most of the info I've seen on A Christmas Story says that the 2-disc SE has both the OAR and PS.

Guys, don't lose any sleep about the AM/FM radio. It's probably some Classic Am/Fm portable piece of crap that retails for $8 or $9.

That's an awesome price on the Lion King. Where did you get the Bestbuy price? The ad circular that came with the Dallas Morning News just said "Hot Price". Nevertheless, since Abilene does not have a Best Buy, I will pricematch at Wal*Mart.
