Okay, I updated my list: Angie The Bedford Diaries Central Park West The Charmings Cliffhangers Cover Up Dark Skies Dolphin Cove Fantastic Journey Fresno Hail to the Chief Logan's Run Marshall Law Models, Inc. Muscle North Shore No Soap, Radio Oh, Madeline! Pacific Palisades Partners in Crime Phyllis The Quest (1980s version) The Ropers Savannah Second Noah South Beach Square Pegs Summerland Three Moons Over Milford The Titans Veritas: The Quest Voyagers When Things Were Rotten A Year in the Life Young Americans ...and the list goes on.
I think they should go one step further: release shows that were pulled BEFORE airing.
How about Snip? The proposed David Brenner/Lesley Ann Warren hairdresser sitcom that had 5 episodes in the can before NBC pulled the plug in 1976? Had it aired, it would have had the first openly gay regular character, predating the one played by Billy Crystal on "Soap" by a year.
Then there's Mister Dugan, the proposed Cleavon Little sitcom from 1979. He would have played a black congressman. 3 episodes were taped and the show was set for a March 11 air date but Norman Lear pulled the plug to appease real black congressmen who were not exactly thrilled.
I'd love to see Out Of Practice, What About Joan, Jesse (two seasons, but nonetheless cancelled prematurely), Happy Hour, Wolf Lake, Baby Bob, Bette, Summerland, Medical Investigation, Twenty Good Years, Jake 2.0, Jake-In-Progress, Jack and Bobby, Reunion, Living with Fran, Teachers, Kidnapped, Vanished, Runaway, The In-Laws, The Mountain, Courting Alex, Smith, Emily's Reasons Why Not (technically a one-episode wonder, but they made 7 episodes), Crumbs, Coupling (US version), Teachers (US version), Regular Joe, and Happy Family. They're mainly shows from about the year 2000 to now. I'll probably add more to this list. Hopefully they'll finish making the episodes of Reunion, so that it adds up to the 20 or whatever episodes that they were planning on making. Then a DVD release would be great. -James
It isn't one season. It's actually only shown three episodes. It's likely that it will last longer than it's 6 episodes first season run. It'll probably get released on DVD in a few months, to a year, but probably only in the UK and Australia. If it doesn't, then you can download the episodes from Bigpond.com.au. -James
this actually ran two seasons, or to be more precice, two "half-seasons". It was a mid-season replacement its first year and starred William Jordan as the leader of Project Blue Blook.
It returned in the fall for a second season, but with Edward Winter instead of Jordan. It was gone by midseason.
If you can play Region 2 PAL-encoded DVDs, you're (sort-of) in luck.
The Starlost has been released in Britain and is available from online vendors such as AmazonUK. However, what was release wasn't the origial hour-long episodic versions, but the five "movies", which are really nothing more than two episodes (each) stitched together. It is even titled The Starlost Movie Collection.
I guess for the hard-core fan, though, that probably beats nothing.
At first one wonders why this occurred, then I think I figured it out. The five movies had been previously issued on VHS (in Canada, certainly), so it was probably a case of where it was easier/cheaper to use the existing home video masters than having to go back to the original 2" quad videotapes and do a bunch of remastering, restoration, etc.
My quick list: Quark. Great little space comedy show. Glad I had the HA! network when the reran it around 1990. Logan's Run. I wouldn't be surprised if they're sitting on this for a new movie tie-in. Wish they'd just go ahead and put it out there! Man From Atlantis Da Ali G Show (2000), the original Channel 4 series. Only clips have been issued so far from this. No Soap, Radio, though I have to wonder if it hold up well today. Cliff-Hangers! Probably the least likely of these to get a release as it's probably the most obscure, though a few people might remember the Dracula segments. I still enjoy my old ropey 1979 video recordings.
