I used Owens Corning 3.5" R-13 in all walls, interior and exterior throughout the HT and Media Room. The insulation above the ceiling will all be blown in this week.
Thanks Christo, you have no idea how much I appreciate your complements. This has been a lot harder to make a reality than I had previosly thought. I have had this set up in my head for about two years, it's really cool to actually see it coming to life!
This has been a stressful remod/addition project since it contains every room in the entire house. I will be so glad when all of this is over!
Small progress made this morning. We started on the shelving for the Media Room that will house my music and movies. This partially finished unit will be one of four in the room. We ran out of materials (bummer) which halted today's productivity promptly.
My shelves are 6" deep and 8" high for all of the CD/DVD storage. The larger shelves above the cabinet wall will be 14" x 14" to handle albums and laserdiscs (and maybe a Star Wars helmet or two). I chose to place bracing so that the shelves are supported in thirds. The entire structures will be trimmed out in Birch which should also add to the strength of the units. All units will be securely anchored at the top to a cross brace for extra stability, those suckers are heavy when loaded!
Hope to have the shelving completed by weeks end so the painters can do their thing.
Good news... my shelving is coming along better than expected, I am very happy with the progress there. The center section holds a Skybox drink machine. Here are the shelves... http://pic8.picturetrail.com/VOL242/...6/58507967.jpg
Anyway, tomorrow I'm swinging by Sherwin Williams for an emergency consultation. I am thinking of painting the columns gray and using a deep burgundy in place of the screaming, helter skelter red.
Changed to Burgundy today (did not make the painter happy) and things are now going in the right direction. The first coat is on so a lot of the Screaming Red is still showing but it is obvious that a major improvement in color is underway. I also changed the columns to the gray, I like that better too.
We are still laughing about that red... too funny. I really took some crap from the girl at the paint store, let's just say she told me so. Live and learn.
I wish I could better pics, I seriously need a tri-pod. The only way I can get good pics in the dark room is to slow the shutter speed down. The problem with that is I can not hold the camera still enough by hand and the pics blur. I'll see about a tri-pod this weekend.
Tomorrow should bring another couple of coats and the Screaming Red should be a distant joke. You can still see it bleeding through and you can see it around the edges of the walls... what a hoot.
Here's the best I can do for now... the burgundy is darker than these pics show so do not panic:
Thanks Brian, I really appreciate that. If this room is a flop I have no one to blame but me! I have been planning this room and the adjacent Media Room for a long time.
Still have one more coat of paint to go next Tuesday, but you can see how much better this looks than the screaming red! Lights won't be in until next week either, the ones in the pics are just plane old spare bulbs we had to check the wiring.
I might have a few more Media Room pics to post later this evening. I don't expect a whole lot to be done over the weekend since it's a holiday weekend. Oh, by the way... HAPPY 4th EVERYONE!!!!!
I had hoped to post more pics of the Media Room but it looks like Monday evening for those. Everyone is off for the 4th now. Monday should be good though, more shelves, trim, equipment rack... lots of fun stuff. Also, hope to have the second riser in Monday (third row).
I've said it before and I'll say it again... I'll be glad when all this is over!
I really like the look of your HT. And the best is the wonderful signage.
Now I need to get down to GA sometime!
BTW, I want one of those Skybox machines. They are so cool. It is hard to get the wife to agree to something that costs that much just to hold soda in though. Keep the pictures coming.
All of you guys/gals are welcome at my home anytime. In all seriousness, it may take the better part of a year to get the rest of the house back in line though. I have construction in every single room at the moment... not cool. My wife and I have decided that making it through this project without killing each other is proving that we are truly meant to be together! The HT and Media Room portion of the project have been no hassle as that is new construction added on to the house. The master bedroom, dining room, kitchen, etc. has been nerve racking. Looking back, I almost would have rather rented an apartment for a few months while this was going on. The heavy stuff should be finished in the next few weeks (if it will ever stop raining here!) and the cres will be gone. Then I will have about 3.2 million DIY projects around here... yippee.
At least at the end of the day I can ease up to the Media Room, push a button on the Skybox for a drink, check my e-mail and smooth on into the HT for a little Lyle Lovett, Joshua Judges Ruth in DTS. After that, I may pick things up a bit by popping in a couple of episodes of Band of Brothers or watch Tombstone, or even experience Peter Frampton do his thing... yeah, that's what i'm talkin' about.
Hmmmm... I may have to take a lawn chair and a boom box to the HT right now just to practice, I can harldy wait!
