Since you said you've got a house and this lightning strike wiped out most of the electronics in your house including the sub amp, why not use your homeowner's insurance to file a claim for the amp and other electronics?
Frankly, you were just plain lucky the rest of your system wasn't fried too since the unprotected sub could've provided a conduit for the surge to enter. Regardless of what your personal opinion is of the Monster unit you have, you'll do a far better job at protecting the electronics in your home if you first install a whole house system to deal with surges and other electrical disasters.
