I have a hard time narrowing down my very favourite movie. I would have to say Contact, then TOOTSIE. I think the best actor would definately be Dustin Hoffman (although he was in this terrible movie I saw on tv about some sort of killer virus that was destroying a town) and my favourite performance would also be by Dustin Hoffman in Tootsie.(although his performance in The Graduate and Rain Man are also close behind)

What does everone else think is the greatest of all??? :)

Hey, that was Outbreak with Cuba Gooding JR., Morgan Freeman, Donald Sutherland, and Rene Russo. I like that movie! :b

I try to keep my "favorites" and my opinion of the "greatest" seperate so I'll go with the "greatest" here since that was the question.

Those Ernest picked were all #2 on my list. :)

Movie: On the Waterfront
Actor: Marlon Brando
Performance: Brando (Last Tango in Paris)

This is a hard question to answer. I haven't seen every movie every made. Questions like this also seem to be more of a " what was your favorite" type of thing.

I don't know I'll have to think about it longer.

Always a great topic for some arguments. I don't know if you can consider them all time greats but off the top of my head 2 performances that really affected me were Ed Norton in Primal Fear and Tom Cruise in Magnolia. I really feel that that was Cruise's best performance in a career that has had quite a few good ones.

I have yet to see lots of classics (Casablanca, 2001, Gone With the Wind, Citizen Kane, Lawrence of Arabia, The Godfather Trilogy, etc.), so keep that in mind:

Movie: Traffic
Actor: No particular favorite
Actress: Julianne Moore
Performance (absolutely no doubt): Peter Sarsgaard (Shattered Glass)

I abstain on the first 2 questions, but the Best Performance of All Time is Giulietta Masina in Nights of Cabiria

Favorite Movie: Star Wars [Before it was Episode IV: A New Hope] Raiders of the Lost Ark [Tie]

Favorite Actor: Harrison Ford

Favorite Actress: Hard to say, since many actresses of the last 30 years or so that I have found intriguing get an Oscar or Emmy and then seem to have no career afterwards.

Favorite Performance: George C. Scott as General George S. Patton in "Patton" and Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter in "Silence of the Lambs" [Tie]

It is really interesting to see how people's taste varies.
I saw Serpico and it really did nothing for me. I thought Pacino's performances in the Godfather, Dog Day Afternoon, and Scent of A Woman were much better than in Serpico. YMMV. Seeing someone that feels so passionate about it makes me think I need to revisit that movie.

Movie: The Empire Strikes Back

Actor: Probably Spencer Tracy or Buster Keaton, though there are at least two dozen others who would be just as valid

Actress: I don't have a standout favorite, but I like Rob's choice of Giulietta Masina

Performance: George C. Scott in Patton (followed closely by Skeet Ulrich in Chilly Dogs); Vivien Leigh in Gone With the Wind is my top female performance (is that sound I hear George's brain exploding?)
