It's an odd print that was created. My feeling is it should not have been, with radio calls.
I had asked that they not use them. I'm told they run several times during the intermission, which if true, is wrong.
Why is it wrong? They producers went to the trouble of creating them.

It was also an UltraPanavision print and the museum either didn't know in advance or couldn't secure the correct lenses in time, so they ran it squeezed. And committed the cardinal sin of exhibition - they didn't mention it in advance of the show.

This is true. It was projected at what looked to me like 2.2:1, instead of 2.76:1 and I didn't like that. It was squeezed. I've been meaning to find out the reason for this. Also, the projectionist didn't have the timing right for lowering of lights and the traveler opening at the end of the overature and the beginning of the title sequence, allowing the audience to see a blank screen, which should never occur.

Wait a minute.

Someone played MAD WORLD and the image was squeezed?

And people sat there and watched it?

It wasn't severely squeezed, But, it was definitely squeezed. I bet some people didn't notice.

Yeah. Those are the people who watch their TV shows stretched to fit the screen.

The DVD is okay but I like the Robert Wise, introduction on the laserdisc with the 70mm process, 65mm interpositive.

Some scenes have bit hash contrast on chapter 13, 34:00 the white dress Maria, wearing in the background looks a bit bright, on next shot close up, looks normal.

Other scenes white clothing the contrast on the transfer is a few bars high.

Andy's holding up the beautiful cover of the same MGM laserdisc of "West Side Story" that I used to have (I still have a couple of hundred laserdiscs). I'd just like to say that I love the laserdisc format like I've loved no other video format before or since. I do love Blu-Ray and DVD, which have led to advances in home theatre that probably would never have happened without those formats, and Blu-Ray is certainly the best video format ever (to date). But I love those covers, and I love those big silver platters, and I love that laserdiscs led directly to an explosion of disc-based home video quality. Would Home Theatre Forum even exist if laserdisc hadn't existed? Despite their flaws, and probably because of them, I still love my laserdiscs.

Two special screenings in NYC with George Chakiris in attendance. 11/22 & 11/23

Is anyone familiar with the SVA Theater on W. 23rd?

Nice enough venue. Two screens. I've only been in one of the two houses. Fairly large, with a large screen (by today's standards). I doubt you'll be seeing it projected in 70mm, though. It'll be a giant video projection. Yuck.

The filmmakers created the radio calls as a cohesive part of a totally different cut of the film. They were never meant to be heard with the short version, and as such, were removed by those same filmmakers.

Do you know if you order the 3 disc set now from Amazon that it will contain the "corrected" less bad blu ray ?
Haven't got this too yet.

So, what was the verdict with this?

Was the green meant to be seen or not?

Because I think I've read somewhere that the green (like in the DVDs) wasn't meant to be seen.

No to green, I believe. I never got the Blu-ray either, due to MGM's ineptitude and nose thumbing at its fanbase, but at $7.99 for the 3-disc set, it is tempting.

No green, no fade, no black - EVER. There are forty something pages where that information is repeated ad nauseum.
Ok.

But according to the updated first post of this thread, it's still not right in the replacement disc?

I'm trying to understand how it should be..

Ok, no greens, nor fades out fade in.

What is the problem in the replacement disc?

Although when I see that video above, it does seem somewhat peculiar.
