Wow - amazing stuff... reliable though?

I see Universal is also rumoured to release:
Casino "S.E."
Chronicles Of Riddick - Director's Cut (like that was necessary)

Warner is going to kick ass this year...
The Sting SE,
The Oliver Stone Collection,
Ben Hur SE,
Batman SE,
Rebel Without a Cause SE,
Bullit SE,
Corvette Summer...

Wow - expensive year.

God I hope this is true ! And not just JAWS - CASINO and THE STING S.Es - as well as :

RUMBLEFISH S.E
THE BIG LEBOWSKI S.E
THE FRIGHTENERS S.E
THE BORDER S.E (!?)

That last one makes me wonder, I have to admit. THE BORDER was just released on R1 - it's a pretty obscure film (a good one though) and I can't see them expecting people to double-dip on it. That's not to say it won't happen in R2, of course ; although I still find it an odd choice for an S.E.

Still, here's hoping. Thanks for the link CraigL.

Well it is exciting that a new 2-Disc SE may be on the way, but am nervous that Universal might screw it up somehow and make some boneheaded decision not to include the original mono track or the documentary at it's full length.

Is there anyway to contact Spielberg somehow through Spielbergfilms.com or an e.mail address to his offices. I'm wondering if it would be an idea to try to get a message to him on behalf of this forum to make sure Universal does Jaws right this time. Or would that just be a waste of time?

This might be clutching at straws but this story is all over the web :

"Majesco (OTCBB:MJSH), a leading publisher and distributor of interactive entertainment products, today announced that it has secured the interactive entertainment rights to one of the most enduring action-suspense films of all time, Universal Pictures' and Steven Spielberg's Jaws. Developed by Appaloosa, the video game is scheduled to ship in summer 2005 to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the film's theatrical release.

"Without a doubt, Jaws is one of the most revered classics of all time. The film's mixture of action, adventure and suspense terrified the masses," said Jesse Sutton, chief executive officer of Majesco. "The game will capture that same action and excitement as the movie, but this time, the shark enjoys some pay-back."

"Jaws was an instant hit, a phenomenon, acclaimed by critics and audiences alike," said Bill Kispert, vice president of Interactive at Universal Studios Consumer Products Group. "It was an adrenaline-charged experience. With Jaws, the game, we want to give players that same adrenaline rush as they control the power and the fury of a Great White."

In Majesco's Jaws, players assume the role of a Great White shark driven to a predacious frenzy by the sonic emanations of underwater oil drilling equipment. To defend their underwater territory, players undertake a campaign to drive the raiders away while simultaneously solving a series of action-based puzzles designed to thwart the player.

Taking the game to realistic heights is Appaloosa's advanced game engine that produces stunning underwater visuals and realistic physics that enable the Great White to perform a variety of leaping, twisting assaults, thus rendering havens such as dive platforms and boats vulnerable to attack.

Jaws is scheduled for release in 2005 for the PlayStation(R) 2 computer entertainment system, Xbox(R) video game system from Microsoft and personal computers. More information about Jaws and Majesco's entire lineup of products can be found online at www.majescogames.com. "

It sounds shit, if you ask me. But I think it backs up the DVD rumour - they tend to do across the board marketing pushes on these things. I wouldn't actually be surprised to see a limited re-release for the film.

BTW, Will G - imho, I think it'd be a waste of time. They're either going to go all out or they're not. I'd imagine the full-length doc'll be there - maybe even a new one - but even if they've got access to all the materials hinted at, they'll probably hold some back for the HD release. Spielberg's DVDs tend to be good, but quite restrained. And I'll eat the hats of everyone on this forum if there's a commentary !

Universal seem to be getting into the habit of remastering previous films and creating SEs (Scarface, The Thing, Field of Dreams) but they cut the 90-minute docu from Field of Dreams for the 2-disc, remember? I have to admit that I am, too, am nervous about this new edition.

Let's face it: Jaws is one of, if not the jewel in their crown. They will milk and market it for decades to come.

If it really is going to be a 2-disc, then that is a good sign. But to be honest, the thing I really want is the original mono mix, in the addition to Dolby 5.1 and DTS 5.1, just like the superb Duel disc. The foley effects on the mono are so much better than the new digitally recorded effects on the 5.1 mixes. Obviously, Universal had to restore and digitally convert the original mag tracks and stems to create the 5.1 back in 1999, so I see no reason why they couldn't have created a new digital mono master then and certainly not now. Incidentally, does Jaws ever play in mono on American TV these days?

The transfer will probably be new, as Universal will need a hi-def master for future use.

I think that the lack of mono track on the Jaws disc was a call made by Speilberg. Given his considerable clout in Hollywood, I would assume he had some call over the final specs on the disc. So I think that he only wants the 5.1 track to the be the movie's 'official' soundtrack.

I could be totally wrong about that but why, if he wanted the mono track on any disc, would it not have been on it originally?

Gordon- Jaws still plays on American TV with the mono track. As a matter of fact, I don't think I've ever heard/seen the remix on TV.

Recent prints of Jaws have either Dolby 5.1 or DTS 5.1 mixes.

The Duel DVD's 5.1 tracks have new foley. The mono was retained, however.

Current TV broadcast are probably from pre-DVD tapes. But future HDTV presentations will most surely have the 5.1 mix.

Cheers, Travis. :emoji_thumbsup:

The last time I caught JAWS on TV it had the new mix, as I heard the different whale song.

Yup. Let's hope for the best. But don't expect Jaws the
Definitive Edition ... they will milk this cash cow for all it is worth.

I saw a print this past summer in NYC. It was a brand new print struck for that screening. It was the 5.1 print.
