Today, The Great Train Robbery. As he started to get acclaim for his novels in the early 1970’s, Michael Crichton also dipped his toes into writing and directing movies as well. Making his debut with the made-for-TV thriller Pursuit (1972), he first attracted notice with Westworld (1973) in the capacity of a filmmaker; despite that critical and commercial success, it would be another 5 years before he returned to the director’s chair. When he did so in 1978, one of the two films he did helm was an adaptation of his own work, The Great Train Robbery (no relation to the famed 1903 Edwin S. Porter film). Kino has brought the movie back from the OOP dead for this Blu-ray re-release.
