Is this another reality scandal in the making? I think ABC should investigate and make another TV special (/money/controversy) on this one? ;) Oh well, looks like Romber is happy (and will keep their mouth shut forever), the bribe err compromise err (oops! I mean) CBS will cover their wedding and they will probably be paid more than what the TAR7 winners received. :D

Anyone noticed the look on Phil's face when he was asking Ron and Kelly what the status of their relationship was, and they told him they were not wanting the same things at the moment, it was a rather uncomfortable moment/topic for the otherwise joyous ocassion. Phil had to be thinking "Eek, I guess I shouldn't have asked that question just right now..."

WOW guys great people and good racers beat out Great racers and not so good people.

All is right in this world!

Most people would agree that Rob/Amber got help because of Survivor fame, and now everybody complains about a fix for U and J. What way does everybody want it??

The right team won, and get rid of the semi famous people for next round.

Where are the DVD seasons??

Great show last night! I do think that someone stepped in and allowed U & J to get on that flight. Not really fair but the finale would have been quite dull watching two teams battle for second place. Nobody gets on a plane heading into the States when it is ready to pull away from the gate.

I was routing for Rob and Amber but I had U & J as my HTF picks. Quite the conflict... ;)

I really wish they would have a REAL challenge in the final city. The last few years the team that got lost trying to find the pizza/cigar shop got screwed. Give them a few challenges on the final leg and make things interesting already!

I figure that the airline employee (or manager), seeing the cameras rolling, wanted to show their airline in a good light - that's American Airline by the way. :) Or perhaps the pilot is a TAR fan, he got the news about it being the ultimate flight, and he wanted it to be a race. Anyway, I figure it was an aberration but not a conspiracy.

And as far as U&J winning - I think it was Karma with a capitol "K" because J shaved her head. Nothing against Romber and the way they raced since it was a competition, but out of the last 3 couples, I really hoped U&J would win. I was afraid that the taxi-driver would drop them off when they admitted they didn't have more money in-hand, but I love their honesty and humanity.

"Houston, we have an elephant!" :D

I was pretty unhappy with the flight thing; that bunch up was awkward and seemed, uh, not quite right. But Kudos to the winner, who were in it all the way.

I really doubt they got anything close to that amount but who really knows. I'll pass on that "special" event as the two really hold no interest for me.

I'm certain their agent is currently trying to sell them for a new reality show in the same vain as the other shows that focus on people living together.

On the plus side CBS could eventually have a new special, "Rob & Amber, the Divorce!". I’m just kidding I wish them the very best in life just as long as it is no longer on TV.

I was hoping ROMBER would win so maybe this is sour grapes talking but here’s my rant.

The last "Hours Of Operation" bunch up was a bit too much for me this episode. It allowed a team that "appeared" to be half a day behind on the last leg of the race to catch up to the leaders. Is it just me or did this make the whole day of racing totally pointless?? It did not matter that U&J started the last leg of the race with no money because the show was waiting for them, literally. Watching U&J beg for money all day and then make a miraculous recovery (because of a bunch up) felt a little too scripted for me.

I would prefer if "The Race" were run like the first couple of seasons. The race was more open then. Scripted bunch ups where rare and flights where not spoon fed to the teams. I loved the end of the first season when the gay couple where still in Alaska (I think it was Alaska) snowshoeing and they received the clue telling them that the race was over. :D

That smelt a little fishy to me too. I am sure we have not heard the end of it.

I still have to give U&J credit. They are great competitors and a great couple. :emoji_thumbsup:

Interesting. My Sister, husband, and two children couldn't get on a flight leaving Miami going back into Canada because they were only 45 minutes early. You have to book in one hour ahead of time since 9/11

They missed the flight and couldn't get out of Miami until the next day. All their bags were checked so all they had were the clothes on their back. Just like the AR. ;)

This just happened last week. I guess their kids looked suspicious. ;)

Regardless, I'm sure the cameras had something to do with U&J getting on that flight.

Well, the producers could prep the airlines for possible TAR contestants trying to get on the planes at the last minute, so that's probably why the teams are pre-vetted before they show up at the ticket counters trying to catch a flight and leave the other teams in the dust. Otherwise flight security is a joke.

Also, I thought Romber leaving their bags on the plane might not have been a good move (again, more security precautions might have come into play to delay them getting out of an airport). But it didn't factor in the final US leg of the race.

I still can't believe Romber didn't take time to call information or something since they were, after all, in America, and it can't be that hard to find a location if you know the name of the cigar shop. Hell, they could have gotten the number of the shop from information (411), and called them for directions.

What is the prize for 2nd and 3rd place? Also, since Ron & Kelly were so far behind. Did they have to do the tasks or did they get told where to go?

Also, It was fishy about the plane. I wanted Romber to win. But, was just as happy with U&J winning. Their were a few teams I wouldn't have wanted to win....the Mother & Son and the abusive muscle guy and his girlfriend. Before the show started Ron & Kelly were my hopes to win. But, watching her made me glad they didn't.

Exactly. They must have an "inside" being on the show. Just try to show up at the LAST possible minute and try and get on a plane heading into the United States, it isn't going to happen. At least, it shouldn't.

U&J didn't even seem to be begging to get on. They accepted the fact that they missed the flight and then all of a sudden... "the pilot says you can get on". WTF???

I'm still glad that they won, I just don't want to see the show head down that path.

I wonder if these airlines give TAR airfare in return for the advertising and/or product placement? If it is then maybe the producers contacted their American Airlines rep and asked them to contact the pilot.

American Airlines is a sponsor of the show (FYI), so doubt any extra "effort" was made to get them on the flight.

I think what made it easier for AA to say "yes" was they had NO bags checked in nor bringing on board. If they had checked bags, no way would the flight have been held.

I'm glad on the turn out of the race. It was the most exciting end ever. I just can't see how Rob & Amber having a personal escort in many of the cities was fair to the other teams. Rob was a clever player but his personally is nasty. It's nice to see nice people win for a change.

Wow, a bunch of conspiracy theorists here. I thought it was a good ending. I didn't think the U&J situation was any more strange than when Romber got a plane to wait for them on the runway earlier this season. I think, as others have mentioned, that the airline is expecting this and try their best to accommodate the contestants more than they would a regular passenger. I was basically rooting for everybody except Kelly, so I was pleased with the outcome.

All of the teams are welcome to use locals as guides. I think Jonathan (AKA Blue Hair) and Victoria used more locals last season than ROMBER did. ROMBER's fame may have helped, but that is part of the race. Like others mentioned before, some teams have advantages, Like physical strength, good looks,(it sure is easier for two cute blondes to beg for money) speak the local language,, ect ect ect. Rob and Amber had their so called fame.

Not picking on you Robbie - just wanted a quote to put my comments in perspective:

I was thinking the converse at the beginning of that day - that forcing all taxi-travel when one of the teams starts without any money and having NO chance to bunch up would have been "too much" penalty - just as severe as ending their race right there. IIRC, most of the other race days where people started without money, most of the transportation was show-sponsered and therefore free. Or at least a *lot* less expensive than what U&J had to do on the last leg with no chance to accumulate any money.

Even with the bunch-up, that money shortage almost cost U&J. If the taxi driver in Miami had chosen to stop carrying them when they admitted to having less money than on the meter, it would have been all over. I happen to think that the begging once they got to the end-place was a little staged (probably told them they were in first, and could bolt for the enterance if Romber showed up - but this way they got good shots and drama).

IMO, U&J overcoming starting the last leg with no money was fantastic!

enjoy,

But the name they were given was in English, and the name of the shop was in Spanish, right? That's why they were having so much trouble finding someone who had heard of it. U&J's cabbie just happened to read the entire clue in Spanish, making it more obvious to the person with whom he was speaking.
