Sony str-km7000 7.2 home theatre system run it as 5.1 (1 Viewer)

Hi

I am looking at buying a second hand Sony str-km7000 7.2 home theatre system and want to run it as a 5.1 system. Can I leave speakers off without damaging the system? Also will the amp still try to drive the system even though they are disconnected? If so would this cause the system to use more power?

Every AVR ever made can be set up for 2, 3*, 4, 5 and where applicable 6, 7, 8 and 9.*Some AVR can't do center unless surround is chosen.

Thanks for your feedback - so the amp recognises that the speakers aren't connected and doesn't load those channels

Also do you have any feedback on this system - I have seen it and it looks and sounds great. Other than that I have no idea what to look for

No, the receiver recognizes nothing. There is a set up menu/procedure.Download/print the owners manual.
