Can the same Spyder Colorimeter used to calibrate an Apple Cinema Display also be used to calibrate a a 42-inch LCD for watching TV and DVDs? OR do you need a specialized one for the TV?

Thanks.

Hi Stan.

When a co-worker loaned me his Spyder calibrator, I wondered the same thing.

In short - it's not a TV calibration tool.

It is designed to create a "config" profile that sits on your computer and alters the colors to create a calibrated computer display. It does not tell you how to adjust your TV so your CATV box or DVD player now produce a calibrated picture.

You must also usually hook up your computer to the TV with a DVI/HDMI input. Even if you could adjust the feed to be calibrated - it wont do any thing for the other inputs on your TV. You would only be calibrated for the computer and nothing else.

Sorry, it was nice to try.

I understand that Spyder is also selling a low-cost calibration setup for TV's, but it's more expensive and I have not heard any feedback on how good it works.
