I used to sell them wholesale...so take that as you will(we also sold Pioneer/Elite and Yamaha NS series)...
Pinnacle is a small company that has been around since the mid 70's. Their early to mid-life(late 80s) speakers are fabulous. They had to be.
There was rumor that Pinnacle(one of the few brands out there that actually has some cash on hand) was going to join forces with BIC, Polk and NHT(which NHT can be had for a song).
NHT has since been bought by somebody, have no clue who, but can probably be re-bought by somebody else.
Polk is sucking wind. They are still recovering from going to bed with Best Buy.
BIC has cash, but no idea how to go back to "retail"...
Pinnacle is a great speaker...hampered by the same thing everyone else is hampered by...
The 5000 or so other speaker companies out there...
By the way...
If Pinnacle ever decides to do it, been in the process for 5 years now...
They have a series of Rhino subwoofers(essentially the HSU ULS in a prettier cabinet and...more power) in a 10", 12", 15" and an 18" that will shock the world. Von Scheikert levels of bass performance for barely more than the cost of a HSU ULS.
Ah cool, thanks. Gotta love the world of electronics politics. Didn't Polk head guys head out to make def tech and golden ear? Hope they drop the rhino series sub sometime soon. I'll be looking.
Well, here is the "Polk stupidity" timeline...(what happened...not when...)
Polk decides it wants to "stay retail" instead of doing what BIC, DCM and several others did.
Polk decides that the "expansion of Best Buy" is a good thing(this is when Best Buy wasn't coast to coast yet)
Polk starts retracting their "upper lines" from your neighborhood "mom and pop" in the areas where BB were going in.
Every other "mom and pop" gave a big "screw you" to Polk and started calling other speaker manufacturers.
Best Buy purchases Magnolia.
Best Buy decides it wants to "differentiate" Magnolia from "the floor" by not giving Polk any space inside Magnolia.
Best Buy is the only place to buy any of Polk's speakers...yet you have to know the LS and RTi exist...to even know you can get any.
Polk's better speakers sit in warehouses with no-where to go....
What's funny is Definitive starts up and can be found all over magnolia. Definitive, being a company started by the guys who started Polk "the good years". Ironic to say the least.
