I just upgraded my 37" Panny TH-37PX60U plasma to the 42" TC-P42S30 plasma model. The main reason I did this was to upgrade to 1080p, as well as, have access to the internet and the image viewer tool (so I can watch videos from my SD card). The TH-37PX60U picture was absolutely stunning and I expected the same from the S30 series. So far I am disappointed with the picture (spent a couple hours tweaking the settings). The HD quality does not seem to be as crisp and detailed as my previous model (lettering may be a little sharper). My first thought was maybe i am sitting to close to the TV and 42" is too big. I am 8.5-9 ft from the set and from what I am reading that is a good distance for a 42 inch TV. Could it be the HDMI cable? (Again, my previous 720p tv had superb picture quality using the same cable). Does picture quality get better over time (break-in)? Any help/comments on how to obtain better results would be appreciated. I dont really want to pay for a professional calibration. I am very close to returning this unit and going back to the TH-37PX60U and forgoing the 1080p. Thanks.
