I'll second Ballad of a Soldier.

Just watched it for the first time the other night. :) :emoji_thumbsup:

I'll third Mad Max and Five Easy Pieces.

I'll nominate Badlands and Two-Lane Blacktop.

Erik, I seconded Thunder Road in my second post to this thread. :)

I'm probably the only one who's seen these, but I nominate

Kiss or Kill (1997 Australian movie with Frances O'Connor.)

Aberdeen with Stellan Skarsgård and the amazing Lena Headey.

Other suggestions:

Niagra Niagra with Robin Tunney, Henry Thomas, and Michael Parks.
Leaving Normal

Possible maybes:

About Schmidt
Romper Stomper

Second:

The Long Long Trailer
Badlands

Third:

Mad Max*
Sugerland Express, The*
Y Tu Mama Tambien*

but wait until Justin_S comes around
I was thinking the exact same thing! But since he's running late, I'm going to go ahead and officially nominate:

The Hitcher
Joyride
Road Games
The Wraith

I feel they definitely deserve a spot in this tourney.

Okay we have 3 spots left and still plenty of great nominations waiting in the wings, so shall we shoot for 64, or 16 wild cards?

I'll second Kiss or Kill - a fine little suspense film that features some interesting characters, with the 'breakfast conversation' being one of the best moments in the film.

Romper Stomper? I don't think so... isn't only about the last 15 minutes "on the road"?

About Schmidt, maybe... though the "road" sequence is really only about 25-30% of the movie.

Ooh ooh! I gotta nominate The Sure Thing! I knew I'd forgotten something.

Okay, 16 Wild Cards it shall be.

Regarding Romper Stomper, I agree with Chuck, not enough road time. I haven't seen About Schmidt, but as Chuck pointed out, there's not much road time either. I'm trying to be as flexible as possible, but with space becoming limited and several excellent movies still not in, I'm going to have to say no to that one as well.

Steve and Walter, I'm glad to see that you've seen Kiss or Kill too. I heard about it when it first came out (another one of the many small films brought to my attention by Siskel & Ebert) but I didn't get a chance to see it until last year.

I'll second The Sure Thing!

3 more 3rds left, but I haven't seen most of the movies (that I didn't nominate or second) needing thirds.

I'm ok with the decision about Romper Stomper and About Schmidt. That's why I said they were "possible maybes." There are so many other far more deserving titles that fit the OP that need seconds and thirds.

Okay, their are 32 movies in. Now we just need 16 Wild Cards. There are still several excellent nominations still needing seconds and thirds. I'm astonished that some didn't make the main list, but hopefully they'll get it in as Wild Cards. 3 more seconds and thirds for those who have participated.
