Welcome! Well a month or so ago we were forced to sit thru another silly, biased AFI list (how many songs from Sound Of Music and Singin’ In The Rain are you gonna throw in there??), I’ve decided that now we at the HTF can rectify another sorry situation when the AFI gave their top 50 Villains list last year, almost deliberately leaving off obvious choices like Al Capone, Clarence Boddicker, Norman Stansfield and The Kurrgan. Well we’re gonna rectify all that, and in doing so, I have created The Greatest List Of Movie Villains Ever Assembled. Over 1000 Villains have been gathered in the Nomination Thread to compete for one of the precious 256 competitive spots in this Tourney. So feel free to head over there to get your favorites in!

Alright the official start time will be about 11:30 Tuesday night, in order to give everyone the chance to get back from their Labor Day commitments. In the meantime here are the voting rules:

1. In selecting your pick of a Villain in a given matchup, you may vote for the better performance, who would win in a fight, who has a better wardrobe----IT DOESN'T MATTER. Go with your heart.

2. If you have not seen both movies in a given matchup, please abstain. If you have only seen one movie in a Villain's franchise, then it is okay to vote. Example: If the only Friday The 13th movie you've seen is Part 6: Jason Lives, then you are eligible to vote for Jason Voorhees.

3. The Tourney Master (me) will vote in every matchup, but in case of a tie, my vote will be withdrawn so as not to drag things out.

4. As stated before, this is a character-based tournament. When, for example, Count Dracula competes, you can vote for the Bela Lugosi version, the Christopher Lee version, the Gary Oldman version, or whatever one you like best.

5. Finally, have fun and enjoy yourselves, as hopefully people will want to seek out certain Villain's films that they've never seen(which is really what these tourneys are all about!)

And now ladies and gentlemen,

LLLLLLet’s get ready to rumble!!!!!!!!

Introducing first,

Bracket 1 Match 1

“If there’s something strange, In The Neighborhood,
Who ya gonna call?”

“Everything was fine with our system until the power grid was shut off by dickless here.”

“They caused the explosion!”

“Is this true?”

Walter Peck-Ghostbusters (William Atherton)
“Yes it’s true. This man has no dick.”

vs.

“Who are you then? Just another American who saw too many movies as a child? Another orphan of a bankrupt culture who thinks he’s Rambo, John Wayne, Marshall Dillon?”

“I always had a thing for Roy Rogers myself. I really dug those sequined shirts.”

Hans Gruber-Die Hard (Alan Rickman)
“Do you really think you have a chance against us, Mr. Cowboy?”

Ric’s Pick : Hans Gruber

Match 2

“Burn baby burning. Disco Inferno!”

“It all comes down to this roll. Roy Munson, a man-child, with a dream to topple bowling giant Ernie McCracken. If he strikes, he's the 1979 Odor-Eaters Champion. He's got one foot in the frying pan and one in the pressure cooker. Believe me, as a bowler, I know that right about now, your bladder feels like an overstuffed vacuum cleaner bag and your butt is kinda like an about-to-explode bratwurst.”

“Hey. Do you mind? I wasn't talking when you were bowling.”

Ernie “Big Ern” McCracken-Kingpin (Bill Murray)
“Was I talking out loud? Was I? Sorry. Good luck.”

vs.

“A few weeks ago I had the good providence to stumble upon a plan of the city council. A construction plan of epic proportions. We're calling it a freeway.”

“Freeway? What the hell's a freeway?”

“Eight lanes of shimmering cement running from here to Pasadena. Smooth, safe, fast. Traffic jams will be a thing of the past.”

“So that's why you killed Acme and Maroon? For this freeway? I don't get it.”

Judge Doom-Who Framed Roger Rabbit (Christopher Lloyd)
“Of course not. You lack vision, but I see a place where people get on and off the freeway. On and off, off and on all day, all night. Soon, where Toon Town once stood will be a string of gas stations, inexpensive motels, restaurants that serve rapidly prepared food. Tire salons, automobile dealerships and wonderful, wonderful billboards reaching as far as the eye can see. My God, it'll be beautiful.”

Ric’s Pick: Ernie “Big Ern” McCracken

Final Scores:

Hans Gruber-12
Walter Peck-0

Ernie "Big Ern" McCracken-6
Judge Doom-4

Bracket 2 Match 3

“Why don’t you just face it? I’m God now.”

“God’s not supposed to be some hack horror writer.”

“Well, we’ll see about that. Look around when you wake up.”

Sutter Kane-In The Mouth Of Madness (Jurgen Prochnow)
“Did I ever tell you my favorite color was blue?”

vs.

“What??”

“They got the shipment!”

“They what?”

“They got the whole shipment!”

“I want that son of a bitch dead! What am I, alone in this world? Am I asking you what you’re trying to do?”

Al Capone-The Untouchables (Robert DeNiro)
“I want you to get this fuck where he breathes! I want you to find this fancy-boy Elliot Ness, I want him dead! I want his family dead! I want his house burned to the ground! I want to go there in the middle of the night and piss on his ashes!”

Ric’s Pick: Al Capone

Match 4

“Fellas. I'm glad you're here. Look, I need your help. Here's what happened. I had this blowout. I think there's a spare in the back. It may be a little flat. Take a look at it will you kid? Is there an airport anyplace around here? Look, if the spare is flat don't bother fixing it. Gimme a new tire, alright? You ain't got a new tire? Then you'll have to fix the spare. But don't look at me. Move it, will you kid? You, you could be gassing up while he's working. What is it a staring contest? Come on!”

(claps his hands together)

Otto Meyer-It’s A Mad Mad Mad Mad World (Phil Silvers)
“Move! Move, will you kid? Come on!”

vs.

“I've seen horrors... horrors that you've seen. But you have no right to call me a murderer. You have a right to kill me. You have a right to do that... but you have no right to judge me. It's impossible for words to describe what is necessary to those who do not know what horror means. Horror. Horror has a face... and you must make a friend of horror. Horror and moral terror are your friends. If they are not then they are enemies to be feared. They are truly enemies. I remember when I was with Special Forces. Seems a thousand centuries ago. We went into a camp to inoculate the children. We left the camp after we had inoculated the children for Polio, and this old man came running after us and he was crying. He couldn't see. We went back there and they had come and hacked off every inoculated arm. There they were in a pile. A pile of little arms. And I remember... I... I... I cried. I wept like some grandmother. I wanted to tear my teeth out. I didn't know what I wanted to do. And I want to remember it. I never want to forget it. I never want to forget. And then I realized... like I was shot... like I was shot with a diamond... a diamond bullet right through my forehead. And I thought: My God... the genius of that. The genius. The will to do that. Perfect, genuine, complete, crystalline, pure. And then I realized they were stronger than we. Because they could stand that these were not monsters. These were men... trained cadres. These men who fought with their hearts, who had families, who had children, who were filled with love... but they had the strength... the strength... to do that. If I had ten divisions of those men our troubles here would be over very quickly.”

Col. Walter E. Kurtz-Apocalypse Now (Marlon Brando)
“You have to have men who are moral... and at the same time who are able to utilize their primordial instincts to kill without feeling... without passion... without judgment... without judgment. Because it's judgment that defeats us.

Ric’s Pick: Col. Walter E. Kurtz
