I have a 6-year-old Russian Blue named Ash, from The Evil Dead: Ash
My other beast is a 3-year-old Maine Coon/something. I christened her Ripley, from--you guessed it--the Alien:
"The Talented Miss Ripley"

I think it's best to name your animal after another animal.

For example to name your dog "kitty" or something like that. Or maybe name him after a charcteristic not usually associated with that animal, for example a goldfish named "killer"
