After 3 years the inbuilt speakers on my Samsung 40 inch 1080p TV ( UA40D5500 ) have given up. its probably time to invest in a decent Home Theater Setup.

The problem is, after checking up the manuals, net etc I found out that my TV have only ordinary HDMI ( no ARC ) , and only 2 channel Optical pass through .

The only input that is currently hooked up is a Tatasky STB that outputs upto 1080i video and Dolby Digital 5.1 on HD content. It has a single HDMI, Optical and component outputs.

I was wondering, at the least, what all receivers, DVD/Bluray players, speakers I would need to get to have 5.1 surround sound.

Also, I am not any sort of audiophile, So I have a low budget ( Max 300$) and a not a stickler for high quality equipment.

A few pics of the currently hardware and ports available are attached .

If any other information is needed please do ask .

P.S Sorry for the bad quality pics , and dusty TV :P

In the US...or?Denon DHTxxxxBA(there are several models going back 5 years)Onkyo HT-S5x00(again, several models. Ignore the 3x00)All ARC does is bypass the need for a toslink, there is no magic.

In India, The TV models have the same specs across various countries .

I looked up this particular HTIB from Sony. http://www.sony.co.in/product/bdv-e3100

I was wondering if the following would work ..

STB --> HDMI --> TV

Sony Blu ray --> HDMI --> TV

for video connections.

Since my TV only outputs 2.1, would the following setup be suitable ?

STB --> Optical out --> Optical switcher --> Bluray Optical in

where the optical switcher is http://www.amazon.in/ViewHD-TOSLINK-Digital-Optical-Switcher/dp/B00G188Z7A

In case i want to add more sources later .

Yes, that works. The only snag is if the STB does not allow optical audio with HDMI video(yes, some STB disengage all other output when using HDMI.)
