Need help on install of mitsubishi HC3800 projector (1 Viewer)

HI I just got a mitsubishi HC3800 for christmas we hooked it up through hdmi and get a picture but have vertical lines every inch or so across the whole screen.. We then tried several different inputs and get the same thing .. We then pulled all the inputs and just turned on the projector and got a welcome screen with the same lines... does this sound like a defective projector or am I not doing something right?? any advice???

If it is doing it with no inputs sounds like it is defective.
