As Bruce Springsteen tells the audience in his excellent cover (from the live boxed set)...

"This song was originally written as an angry song, Irving Berlin had just written 'God Bless America' and this song was was written as an answer to that song, and uh, this is just about one of the most beautiful songs ever written..."

Hey he's alive. ;)

Like I said earlier my knowledge of 80's music is poor, I only have a handful of albums so i'll choose The Queen is Dead - The Smiths, Album.

Have we not all had a few nights end like this?

It’s quarter to three,
There’s no one in the place ’cept you and me;
So set ’em’ up Joe,
I got a little story I think you oughtta know.

We’re drinking my friend,
To the end of a brief episode;
So make it one for my baby,
And one more for the road.

Just listened to that today Lew on the Sinatra/Red Norvo live disc. It's killer, I've been listening to it over and over. My favorites are the really slow songs over the "swinging" numbers - One For My Baby, Moonlight In Vermont, and my favorite tune on the disc, Willow Weep For Me

George is up.

I didn't realise you picked Yes' Close to the Edge, Brook. By far the best Yes song, it was one of my selections in the last music draft.

Sorry, I missed that it was my turn.

What's left? A couple of wild card songs?

Weeping Willow Rag - Air This is a great avant-garde free jazz version of one of Scott Joplin's best rags.

Harry You're a Beast - Frank Zappa This was a very tough choice over What's the Ugliest Part of Your Body? and Take Your Clothes Off When You Dance.

Eleanor Rigby - The Beatles (60's song)

[SIZE=0.3]
Ah, look at all the lonely people
Ah, look at all the lonely people

Eleanor rigby picks up the rice in the church where a wedding has been
Lives in a dream
Waits at the window, wearing the face that she keeps in a jar by the door
Who is it for?

All the lonely people
Where do they all come from ?
All the lonely people
Where do they all belong ?

Father mckenzie writing the words of a sermon that no one will hear
No one comes near.
Look at him working. darning his socks in the night when there’s nobody there
What does he care?

All the lonely people
Where do they all come from?
All the lonely people
Where do they all belong?

Eleanor rigby died in the church and was buried along with her name
Nobody came
Father mckenzie wiping the dirt from his hands as he walks from the grave
No one was saved

All the lonely people
Where do they all come from?
All the lonely people
Where do they all belong?

Etta James - At Last (60's song)

At last my love has come along
My lonely days are over
And life is like a song
Ohh yeah yeah
At last
The skies above are blue
My heart was wrapped up in clover
The night I looked at you

I found a dream, that I could speak to
A dream that I can call my own
I found a thrill to press my cheek to
A thrill that I have never known

Ohh yeah yeah

You smile, you smile
Oh and then the spell was cast
And here we are in heaven
For you are mine at last

I found a dream, that I could speak to
A dream that I can call my own
I found a thrill to press my cheek to
A thrill that I have never known

Ohh yeah yeah

You smile, you smile
Oh and then the spell was cast
And here we are in heaven
For you are mine at last

At last... at last

Lew--you are up.

Yep, but Dome's got my pick, along with any commentary I wrote at the time, so we are really waiting on him. :D

I don't really have many 70's albums to choose from since I don't want to pick something from a band I already have on my list (which takes out Yes), Rumours has already been picked, and I don't want to pick something super obvious like The Wall or Zeppelin IV.

Here's where I lose George's vote ;)
