it runs in the family

a bit different

jessica's twin sister is in this one, and solves it

murder doesnt happen until 23 minutes into the episode

normally it is right away

never heard of jane leeves - but she reminded me of emma samms
Jane Leeves spent more than a decade on Frasier as a regular.

Jessica doesn't have a twin sister. That's her cousin Emma McGill if I'm remembering correctly.

if it's thursday, it must be beverly

gosh, this one was just terrible.
I agree. When the show tried for more light-hearted murder mysteries, it usually missed the mark.

oh well - i guess with 12 seasons of episodes, there are gonna be a few clunkers.

this is the first one for me that really fell off the ladder.

it seems like it was from a different show, entirely.

i dont know if they can keep it up for 12 seasons, but i think one of its strengths is the consistency of the writing.

That's exactly right, do 12 seasons and you can't always hit the mark. I found that I enjoyed the episodes that stayed in Cabot Cove the best. Not sure if they were better episodes, I just seemed to like them more.

steal me a story

back to good episodes

i seldom know the names of "newer" actors, but i see bradford dillman a lot - and he seems to leave a very positive impression with me, so i guess i must like his acting

Yes, that was a fun one. I enjoyed the producer trying to talk Jessica into "The Jessica Fletcher Mystery Hour," and Jessica waving her away saying, "Who on earth would watch that!"

Bradford Dillman was in quite a few of the shows over the years and so were some of the other guest stars.

The only thing I hated were those "bookend" episodes, where Lansbury narrated the episodes but someone else solved the mystery. Glad they only lasted for two seasons.

There were 13 of them in Season 6 and in Season 7. They were so unpopular that Universal abandoned the concept. It was due to Angela Lansbury wanting to cut back her appearances on the show and when Season 8 rolled around, they went back to having Angela appearing in every episode, once again, minus those bookend episodes.

i can see why fans wanted to see the main actress.

for me, i dont have any liking or disliking for lansbury.

so i care more about just the story.

the one time lansbury was narrating, i felt it was a good story with good acting. so i liked it.

The stories to come with various other investigators taking over the Jessica were not very entertaining, for the most part. I felt the storytelling was sluggish, and though there are good actors doing the sleuthing job (a couple aren't really even mysteries), Lansbury's star power was missed. But then, I'm a huge fan.

i am enjoying the show. i had never seen even one second of it before now.

didnt know anything about lansbury.

i kept mostly with the older shows. every once in awhile i get to watching a current show.

i recall with quantum leap, they had a week or 2 where they showed an episode every night, i think.

so i got into it fairly quickly, once i started.

someone had to urge me to watch wonder years, which of course i liked a lot.
