A seperates based system would be much better than any htib except the Onkyo 9300/9400 which isn't bad for a pre-packaged setup. Think about a factory refurbished Denon or Onkyo receiver in the $350 range from ac4l.com like the Onkyo 609 or the Denon 891. http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/category/AVReceiver/Home-Audio/Home-Theater-Receivers/1.html
This Jamo system from Vanns would be another decent choice. http://www.vanns.com/shop/servlet/item/features/544231343/jamo-s606hcs3
Newegg.com has great prices on Polk Monitor speakers. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&N=100006922&isNodeId=1&Description=Monitor&x=27&y=18 Probably better than the Jamo's or Fluance.
These from Pioneer have also gotten real good reviews http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100008225%2050001167&IsNodeId=1&name=Pioneer
But I'd also consider something like this instead.
