Help PLEASE Need a Digital Camcorder (1 Viewer)

I know this isnt necessarily the right area to post this but I dont think there is a right area on the forum
I am in need of a digital camcorder. I have never owned a camcorder of any sort so.... I am not up to speed.
Does anyone know of a forum or website that might be dedicated to this sort of thing or anyone here pretty knowledgeable. I am really lost.
I would like to do basic video capture. My wife and I are having our first baby soon so I want to be able to get it all
I would like to be able to take a still photo too

If this is your first camcorder, go MiniDV
http://www.dv.com/community/ is a forum for a lot of pros, but there are a lot of regular joes just like here
They're more up on specific models than I am
