Even if it did 720P, I would be shit out of luck... I would be converted down to 480p, being my Mitsu won't take 720p signal... Only 1080i....

GTA for Xbox will be 480p....

I sold my PS2 with VC only to find out that this was coming out for X-Box the next day, I really miss it and look foward to picking this up on release day for my X-Box.

Bummer, my Panny 47" won't convert/accept 720p so it looks like 480p as well for me.

Oh well, I know Soul Calibur II looks awesome anyway (and honestly I think I'd rather have the extra real estate of 16:9 for that title over the 720p) so I know GTA/VC can still look damned good at 480p.

The info I'd heard was 480p 16:9, with DD5.1. I don't think even the XBox can do 720p 16:9 (see: Soul Calibur II). But hey, 480p and 16:9 is still fine by me. Especially with the custom playlists and Dolby Digital.
According to OXM, it will be 720p.

And yes, XBox CAN do 720p. NBA2K3 was 720p and on my TV, it's converted up to 1080i...SCHWEEET!!

The Xbox has 1080i support as well, but they are no games for it... yet.

Now I just got ESPN Basketball, which is 720p as well.

It's still an aberration. The point is that believing all 720p games need to be 4:3 is like assuming that all Xbox games need to be 480i based upon "The Thing".

Dragons Lair 3D and Syberia support 1080i the last I looked. I believe Enter the Matrix does as well.
Correct. There was a comment above that someone's TV didn't run native 720p. Most do not. There will be some upconversion or downconversion (depends on who you're talking to) to the monitor's preferred format, which will ultimately degrade quality.

on my 34XBR800 HDTV 720p converted to 1080i looks awesome as does 720 from ABC football looks just as good as 1080i IMHO.

Soul Caliber 2 being 4:3 and 720p is stupid, if something is 720p or 1080i it should be 16:9 period.

I should have said "can" degrade quality. But what's missing here is how those images would have looked in native 720p. I'm not saying that the end result is going to look bad, but the ideal is to display in the native format.

Just to add to some of the comments in this thread.

I have WSB2k3 and it is 720p 16x9. I think it was 4:3 in the menus.

I'm hearing that GTA3 double pack for Xbox is only 480p now. Something about not having enough texture memory to do it. All those game magazines had pre-release copies like the ESPN NFL 720p fiasco.

The PS2 re-release is nothing more than the 2 greatest hits versions packed in one case. I saw it at Best Buy. They want to get rid of the existing inventory.

Not to digress from the HD subject but a quick question, Does the X-Box version of GTA support custom soundtracks? I've not seen it mentioned in any of the previews I've seen as a feature but I keep hearing people saying it does, so what is the deal? does X-Box GTA support custom soundtracks or not?
