Today I discovered a number of upcoming R2 titles which should give some indication of the contents to be found on their eventual R1 counterparts. The films in question are:

All the above titles are owned by Warner Bros., and they are also planning two separate box sets of Hammer horror films, which should also prove interesting – that is, if they will include supplementary materials to match (or perhaps better) the R1 versions:

Box Set 1:

THE CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN
HORROR OF DRACULA
THE MUMMY

Box Set 2:

THE DEVIL RIDES OUT
HORROR OF FRANKENSTEIN
SCARS OF DRACULA
BLOOD FROM THE MUMMY'S TOMB
LUST FOR A VAMPIRE

The titles in the second box set, incidentally, were all released on R1 DVD by Anchor Bay as Special Editions. I already own THE DEVIL RIDES OUT and the 2-Disc Limited Edition sets of SCARS OF DRACULA and BLOOD FROM THE MUMMY'S TOMB, all of which are excellent. Warner’s R1 THE MUMMY, we know, was disappointing for a variety of reasons but, hopefully, the Frankenstein and Dracula films will fare better when their time comes (which should be around Halloween). It appears, however, that Christopher Lee has declined to participate in these two releases and I pray that Warner will persuade him to reconsider his position for the R2 discs, something which they have already done on their DVD edition of THE WICKER MAN!

All these titles have been informally announced for R1, so I'd be shocked if the specs were not identical. As for Lee, I suspect he wants to distance himself from his Hammer days.

"The Song Writers review" that is listed on the Singin'in the Rain SE disc is an early MGM short subject and only runs about 6 minutes, not 60.
