First formed in 1983, Empire International Pictures was the brainchild of Charles Band, who was dissatisfied with the Hollywood studios mishandling of his previous movies. Initially, the studio wanted to compete with the majors but mounting financial woes forced the company to close down before the end of the decade; however, a sizeable portion of the studio’s movies – primarily in the horror and science fiction genre – have gone on to become cult favorites. Arrow Video has licensed five Empire movies from current license holder MGM – The Dungeonmaster, Dolls, Cellar Dweller, Arena and Robot Jox – for a brand new Blu-ray box set release.
