According to Amazon.com the forthcoming 25th Anniversary Edition for "The Fox And The Hound" is the same 1.33:1 pan and scan version that has been released time and time and time again. Its OAR however is 1.66:1. Once again Disney is refusing to deliever a film in its INTENDED aspect ratio. What's even more insulting is that the direct to video sequal coming out shortly is 1.78:1.

Ergh... argh....... indeed.

This was discussed a bit in the thread for the movie, but I'll repost what could be the issue here. It's quite possible that the Widescreen Print just doesn't exist. The movie may have been animated in full frame (maybe even originally for TV), with the intent to simply crop the movie when it was released. Or, the Widescreen Print was heavily damaged or destroyed, so all that remains is the cropped version. I highly doubt that Diseny would release a P&S version of one of their animated classics if they had another choice in the matter. Especially when as you said, the sequel is going to be in 'Family Friendly Widescreen'.
