I have just bought a Technics turntable, model SL-D3 to play my old vinyl collection.

I plugged it into my Sony stereo system and tried to use the 'video' function. The Sony system is as below:
Sony HCD-GR3 stereo Disc Exchange / Mini Hi-fi component system, 3 CD changer and double tape deck
The sound was very low. I have been told I need a phono preamp.

Is this correct? Any advice you could give me on connecting the turntable to the Sony system would be much appreciated.

Cheers
Damian

Yes, you need a phono preamp, if your receiver doesn't have a phono input.
Here is one, but I have no idea how good it is. The customer reviews seem to like it.

Good luck!

You will also need a phono pre amp if you plan on transferring your vinyl to digital on your PC.
