I'm setting up a 7.1 system and I've already decided on an SVS PB12-NSD subwoofer. WAF requires that the rear surrounds be in-wall or on-wall, but I'm willing to reinforce and stiffen the sheetrock and add bracing to eliminate resonances as much as possible. I also am insisting on wide-dispersion speakers for the side surrounds. So given these constraints, and my budget, here's what I think are the two best choices:

Alternative 1: Aperion
Intimus 532-LR bookshelf speakers -- $360/pr
Intimus 533-VAC center surround -- $280
Intimus 534-SS dipole/bipole surround speakers -- $490/pr
Intimus 632-IW in-wall speaker -- $360/pr

Alternative 2: Axiom
Millennia M3 bookshelves -- $330/pr
VP100 center -- $255
QS8 surrounds -- $540/pr
W3 in-wall/on-wall speakers -- $500/pr

Does anyone have any comments on the relative merits of these systems?

I think you would be happy with either choice.

I have Axoim speakers in my dedicated HT and some Aperion's in my bedroom system. Overall, I prefer Axiom. YMMV.
