Or the best of both worlds... real women dressed in anime costume ;)

Most fangirls piss me off though, so I've never really dated one :D

Heh Chris - I guess I ain't the only fan of older stuff here ;)

I got the tv series on dvd at otakon for $220. Can't remember if it was 10 or 12/4 dvds, but it was a fun series. Got the oav box set and the movies too so but haven't seen it.

I can't wait to get more of Maisson Ikkoku - I have the old viz release of the manga, and now am recollecting the cheaper but complete versions. Loved the manga - re read it twice in a two week period. The anime is just as good.

Speaking of manga, I noticed a couple of things last night while reading GTO v.17. First, Miyabi's age is given as 16, while the Japanese text clearly states it is 14. Second, she is described as a high school student in the English text, while the Japanese clearly describes her as a middle school student. Unfortunately, I don't have my copy with me at work, so I can't give pages, but I thought it was a little odd. Maybe Kong can weigh in on this one.

Probably a legal issue... wouldn't want to promote "imappropriate behaviour" amongst the kiddies, now would we? :p) It's like the pointless Toonami censorship of things which don't actually offend people, I guess.

Christopher:

Yeah, I understand that, but then why leave the Japanese text in, in the first place? While I could understand for a 'normal' novel, the number of people who are familiar enough with Japanese who read manga is much higher than in the general population.

I take the same stance of badly translated subs... as long as I can hear the audio and tell what they are really saying, I don't mind it.

Just as you know how old she really is from reading the text and can put it into context :)

Have they said how old the kids in Battle Royale are yet? They are supposed to be in the last year of middle school (9th grade). It wouldn't surprise me if they changed a few words to make it sound like they were seniors in high school. Since killing your friends when you are 18 is A-OK :D:emoji_thumbsup: ;)

Rob:

Yeah, it's not a big deal or anything. As for Battle Royale, they state pretty much up front that they're 15-year olds. Too many people know about it for them to get away with changing that.

This is a long shot... anyone here attending Anime Express next week in Daytona Beach, Florida? LOL, I'm sure not... but maybe a lurker or something ;)

I wasn't planning on going, but it seems that weekend I have nothing better to do and I have fallen under peer pressure ;)

I did say these were pointless edits didn't I? Anyway the person who's going to get annoyed by teenagers drinking, or whatever [Komatsu's porno magazines in KOR, Hikaru and Madoka smoking, &c. -- that would never be shown on American TV!] is not the ordinary manga reader, it's somebody's mother or minister; it's all "cover your ass" type of thing anyway [for the company, and maybe the reader], just so the referenced party is thrown off the scent. I guess. Personally, I like the clear quill... thus my unconscionable LD collection... :)

Finally got a chance to get online :D Woot! Between errands, moving, having punks rip out the phone lines for a *second* weekend in a row, and getting new furniture delivered (:D), I'm surprised I've actually had time to watch any anime. Last night, I watched Martian Successor Nadesico vol. 2, and this morning I watched the NewType September 2003 disk. I hope I can finally finish up ST:TNG season 6 tonight, too.

Well, tonight, I will be seeing another Rurouni Kenshin episode. Damn, this is really becoming my favorite series of all-time. Shit, now I want to buy it. :frowning:

I just picked up the Galaxy Angel LE at Best Buy (per Chris Beverage's glowing review), man is this a tight little package. As part of the Bandai Platinum Series it comes with the DVD, hard sturdy series box (4 discs), a fan book (around 20 pages), 2 pencil boards, and (best of all) 5 4.5" figures of the characters from the series (complete with bases!), they are SO cute! These are instantly going to the top of my monitor... heheh

Finished off Battle Athletes Victory last night. I quite enjoyed it for the most part, but the last disc is a bit much. Actually, I'm a bigger fan of the first part of the series at Antarctica. I just enjoyed the characters there more than the ones on the satelite. I still have the OAV on the shelf to watch, so it will be interesting to see the differences...

My local Best Buy got in some boxes of Last Exile. There's the one with the DVD, and there's one with the action figure and CD.
My Best Buy has had them in ever since they came out. I also have a feeling that I am the only customer to pick up that box. ;)

But at $50, SCREW IT! Same for the DVD alone, which is $35. That's why I love TechTV for picking up the show. :D

Best Buy has had these too for a long time. I stared at one today but it was a few hours after I had put in a preorder for Burn Up Excess (complete), two of the Slayers movies and Sailor Moon Season One...

ooh that reminds me if Sailor Moon Season One self contained or should I go for Season Two as well???? My BF is going to kill me after all the anime I have ordered though but was just wondering. My friend LOVES Sailor Moon and I'm mostly buying it for her.

I was able to watch a couple more DVDs yesterday. In the morning I rewatched the NewType October 2003 disk, and in the afternoon, I finally got a chance to watch Someday's Dreamers vol. 1. I was really impressed. I like the idea of a semi-magical alternative present, while being more serious that Harry Potter. I'm going to have to finish this series quickly :D.

My wife and I also managed to make a run to Uwajimaya/Kinokuniya yesterday, and we picked up the usual goodies :). I got Battle Royale v.6, Kare Kano v.8, and Hikaru Utada's Final Destination maxi-single.

Well I spent my whole paycheck(well not all but most) on Full Metal Panic! Vol. 3, 4 and 5 and Neon Genesis Evangelion Directo's Cut: Genesis Reborn(what a mouthful...anyways contains Episodes 24, 25, and 26.) Now I'm gonna work my ass off to get the Rurouni Kenshin: Wandering Samurai Box. What a fantastic show and awesome box design to boot. Anyone know when the next box set is going to arrive?

Well, I'm out.
