I picked up a cd changer cheap...can I connect it directly to a component input on a LCD tv or do I need an amp? Is there any other way to configure it?

How old is your CD Changer - and what outputs does it have?

Older ones will have RCA outputs (Left and Right channel) - newer ones may have a digital output.

If you want the player to play through your TV as you requested - the RCA inputs to your TV (component input) would work. -- The TV will also have a video connection (usually yellow) , but you don't have to use it to listen to a CD - just use the left and right (usually red and white). TCD TVs are not know for having that great of a sound - but it will work.

"Is there any other way to configure it?"

Anything that will take the input and produce the sound would work - including boom boxes, Stereo systems. or full blown 5.1 or 7.1 systems - but keep in mind that the signal coming from the CD will be in stereo only.

Good luck...
