    New theater WIP

I made a light to go in the back of the cabinet, so I didn't have to hold a flashlight in my teeth while working on things. Then build a case for the bulb out of PVC and a project box for the ballast.

    Receiver selection double-check

One thing I have been a little confused on is the purpose of "front height channels". I see that a lot of units offer surround back OR front height, selectable. Considering that I primarily watch movies (sourced from Blu-Ray, or DVD), I had planned on using my setup in a 7.1 arrangement with...

    Receiver selection double-check

Thanks for the input. Looks like I can get the NR809 for about $800 new at newegg, or the 6005 for around $600. Not a big fan of refurb equipment, just personal taste. Thanks for suggesting a look at the Marantz unit.. It sure is a beautiful unit, and I had missed it in my initial searching. I...

I have renewed my interest in the forum, and am happy to let you know that I am no longer selling these.. I was in a rough spot a while back, but was able to work through it without having to part with these. Sorry to burst your bubble. :D Jim

    Receiver selection double-check

After recently purchasing a new house, I have began converting my full finished into my pseudo-dedicated HT. I am currently looking at upgrading my old Sony STR-DB930 with a 7.1 system. After quite a bit of research, I am narrowing in on the Onkyo TX NR809. The receiver will be dedicated for HT...

    Bi-amping questions

Or I could just keep the set and buy a good sub. :D If I already own the set, my wife wont complain about it.

    Bi-amping questions

I suppose I will setup a secondary HT (living room) and use the extra set in there. Thanks for the input John.

    Bi-amping questions

Specifically, I was thinking something like using an Onkyo M-282 to run the lows off the LFE signal, then let the Onkyo 7.1 receiver run the mid+high as surround rear.

    Bi-amping questions

Thanks for the suggestion on the surrounds.. Any reasoning behind the better ones in the mid, or just preference? On the rear surrounds, how about this thought... Using the AR11 as the rear surrounds, but splitting the low out by unbridging the bindings. Then, take the LFE passthru from the...

    DIY speaker stands?

also, I have a set of these, and they are nice and sturdy.. Now that I bought them, they would be extremely easy to construct (looking at the picture, its basically a flat base, 2 3" strips of wood vertically (at about 90deg angle to each other) and a smaller flat top.

    DIY speaker stands?

Check out the B-Tech BT-77, available at crutchfield (and other places, but crutchfield has pictures and specs). They aren't the cheapest mounts in the world, but great for mounting bookshelves as you would a typical surround.

    Bi-amping questions

First off, sorry if this isn't quite the proper forum, but it seemed the most logical to me. I am trying to plan out my speaker arrangements for my HT, and had some questions about bi-amping that I hoped someone could shed some light on. First, let me prepare you with a little information...
