I made a light to go in the back of the cabinet, so I didn't have to hold a flashlight in my teeth while working on things. Then build a case for the bulb out of PVC and a project box for the ballast.
What will be installed: Marantz 6005 receiver, HTPC custom Win7 Embedded with custom media center, Tripplite Smart1500LCD Power Conditioner, PS3, Sony Blu-Ray Player, Digital Cable box, Logitech Harmony 1000 RF Remote, Optima HD20 Projector, ScreenGoo Screen. Equipment is installed in a Middle...
One thing I have been a little confused on is the purpose of "front height channels". I see that a lot of units offer surround back OR front height, selectable. Considering that I primarily watch movies (sourced from Blu-Ray, or DVD), I had planned on using my setup in a 7.1 arrangement with...
Thanks for the input. Looks like I can get the NR809 for about $800 new at newegg, or the 6005 for around $600. Not a big fan of refurb equipment, just personal taste. Thanks for suggesting a look at the Marantz unit.. It sure is a beautiful unit, and I had missed it in my initial searching. I...
I have renewed my interest in the forum, and am happy to let you know that I am no longer selling these.. I was in a rough spot a while back, but was able to work through it without having to part with these. Sorry to burst your bubble. :D Jim
After recently purchasing a new house, I have began converting my full finished into my pseudo-dedicated HT. I am currently looking at upgrading my old Sony STR-DB930 with a 7.1 system. After quite a bit of research, I am narrowing in on the Onkyo TX NR809. The receiver will be dedicated for HT...
Well, economy is crap, so I am forced to put my AR set up for sale. In all honesty, I hope I get no hits on it, but at least I can say I tried.
What I have:
1 pair Black Ash Hi-Res AR1
1 pair Black Ash Hi-Res AR17
1 pair Black Ash Hi-Res AR15
1 Black Ash AR2C Center
These are all beautiful...
You can get a reproduction of the original product guide for $1 from here: Acoustic Research AR Manuals Service User Owner Instruction Schematics Manuals PDF, Brochures and other Literature For Sale Or the some specs here: Acoustic Research AR7 Or replacement speakers from the original...
Specifically, I was thinking something like using an Onkyo M-282 to run the lows off the LFE signal, then let the Onkyo 7.1 receiver run the mid+high as surround rear.
Thanks for the suggestion on the surrounds.. Any reasoning behind the better ones in the mid, or just preference? On the rear surrounds, how about this thought... Using the AR11 as the rear surrounds, but splitting the low out by unbridging the bindings. Then, take the LFE passthru from the...
also, I have a set of these, and they are nice and sturdy.. Now that I bought them, they would be extremely easy to construct (looking at the picture, its basically a flat base, 2 3" strips of wood vertically (at about 90deg angle to each other) and a smaller flat top.
Check out the B-Tech BT-77, available at crutchfield (and other places, but crutchfield has pictures and specs). They aren't the cheapest mounts in the world, but great for mounting bookshelves as you would a typical surround.
First off, sorry if this isn't quite the proper forum, but it seemed the most logical to me. I am trying to plan out my speaker arrangements for my HT, and had some questions about bi-amping that I hoped someone could shed some light on. First, let me prepare you with a little information...
w00t! Not that I like bragging, but I love these speakers and have managed to acquire an entire second set in mint condition for $300 bucks. Apparently the guy had no idea what he had. So with that said, I now own... --Acoustic Research Hi-Res Series-- AR1 Mains AR11 Mains (B channel)...
If you want to attach it to the wall, it would be fairly straight forward to build it, with minimal carpentry skills. I would make the shelves about 7" in height (a std DVD case is about 6.5 or so), which should allow for those slightly larger box sets and what not. Alternately, depending...
I have a Sony HTIB that was about 250 from wal mart I believe. I use it in the bedroom. Sound quality is decent and it does a good job for all the ... Sci-Fi... I watch in the bedroom.
Cable Cards pricing is determined by the provider, but is usually not very much. I have single stream cards from Charter in Michigan, and they are $2 each. They report they are going to send me multistream cards as soon as their infrastructure is completed to handle them. On my single stream...
Robert, thanks for the info. On (C), In michigan I am more concerned with retaining heat, not avoiding it, but same concept. Gotta retain the heat in a place with 9 months of winter. ;)
thanks for the great information. On a note of clarification, I am building a wood subfloor with carpet, not a hardwood floor. I think that a wood floor has a couple advantages. A) Sound. Concrete I would think would absorb just about everything. B) Cabling. I can put lift panels along one...
This was somewhat along the lines of something I was also trying to determine. I am actually planning on having an acoustically transparent front wall that is about 3ft from the actual front wall. It will be transparent on the left, right, and below the projection screen for the front L/R/C...
I am starting the initial stages of my planning for my HT, and had some questions about room size, seating positions, and screen size.. I dug through mounds and mounds of information and still am a bit confused on how to calculate some of the optimal dimensions for my HT. I have the fortune...
Glad I could help.. It took me quite some time to finally find those, as I was having a heck of a time trying to describe to audio places what I was looking for over the phone. Crutchfield online support is wicked awesome.
One thing that I havent checked on lately is whether the SED release dates have been announced yet. You might want to check into that, as you may either A) want an SED (since they are super-duper), or B) benefit from the huge cost savings once SED is released to the masses, because other...
Just wanted to chime in briefly here... While I have spent time in a cable company, which might bias my opinion, I would use RG-6 for everything. The cost difference is not dramatic between the two, and I feel that RG-6 will better protect your cabling investment as well as be slightly more...
I personally always build my own, but typically thats because I format, re-install, tweak, develop, and mod the living heck out of them many times, so I use my MSDN copy of the software, which ends up saving me $ from the pre-built systems, but for most people, this isn't economical since they...
On a side note, you may look into whether your cable provider supports CableCARD. There is a large amount of HTPCs now that have CableCard slots with allow for the operation of the digital streams without going through a cable box first. Not sure if this solves your problem, but is slightly...
