LG launches QNED MiniLED TVs in the US

LG has announced pricing and availability of its QNED MiniLED TVs. The new premium TVs should deliver higher contrast, deeper blacks and wider viewing angles due to the company’s own Quantum Dot NanoCell color and MiniLED backlight technologies. The the U.S. lineup will consist of 8K QNED99 and 4K QNED90 series models with screen sizes from 65 to 86 inches. The TVs will begin rolling out this month from dealers first, followed by the LG website. Pricing and specific availability are listed below:

The new LCD TVs’ quantum dot tech will provide “richer and more accurate colors for immersive viewing” while LG says it has used the Intertek product testing agency to guarantee 100 percent color volume and color consistency. The new panels pack smaller LEDs into the backlight compared to other TVs with the net effect of increasing brightness and dimming zones. The 86QNED99UPA, for example, is backlit with approximately 30,000 LED lights arranged to enable 2,500 local dimming zones compared to conventional LCD TVs which do not use MiniLED backlight systems.
