KEF launches revamped LSX II wireless speaker pair

KEF has today announced the upcoming launch of the LSX II Wireless HiFi System ($1,400, available June 23) which the company says is “more than an upgrade” of the original. The new speaker pairs include the W2 wireless platform from the LS50 Wireless II and LS60 Wireless. Connectivity has been further enhanced over former models with HDMI and USB-C, supporting both TV and desktop computer setups.

The “high-fidelity” speakers sport striking looks, care of industrial designer Michael Young, and are available in five finishes. The recognizable Uni-Q driver array puts the tweeter at the acoustic center of the woofer, which KEF claims eliminates the “tiny sweet spot”, enabling more accurate sound. Housing amplifiers with 200 Watts of power, both the tweeter and woofer are powered independently.

Streaming options through the KEF Connect app support Amazon Music, Qobuz, Tidal, Deezer, Internet Radio stations and podcasts. There is also Bluetooth, Google Chromecast and Apple AirPlay 2 compatibility, the latter two platforms providing multiple wireless speaker setup support around the home. Audiophiles are accommodated with 24bit/384kHz (PCM), DSD, and full MQA file rendering. A Room EQ DSP feature will fine-tune audio for the specific room or environment, and there are presets for integration with an external KEF subwoofer.

KEF places much emphasis on the design aesthetic with color matched drivers and ports, and an overall lifestyle-friendly look. The cobalt blue and carbon black (both pictured) are clad in a fabric surround from textile design brand Kvadrat. Both mineral white and lava red models come with matte satin and high-gloss finishes, respectively, while the Soundwave by Terence Conran edition was one of the British designer’s final collaborations.
