Be glad you're not putting in a system (at least not yet) on the scale of my current project.
Head unit: Kenwood DPX-MP4030 double-din cd/cassette head unit with MP3 playback capability
CD Changer: Kenwood KDC-C667 6-disc changer
4 Channel Amp: Alpine MRV-F540 (80w x4 RMS 4-ohm @ 14.4v, 50w x4 RMS 4-ohm @ 12v)
Mono Sub Amp: Alpine MRD-M500 (500w x1 RMS 2-ohm @ 14.4v, 400w x1 RMS 2-ohm @ 12v)
Front Speakers: Alpine SPR-176A (x2) Type-R Component 6.5" woofers w/ separate 1" tweeters
Rear Speakers: Alpine SPR-174A (x2) Type-R 6.5" Coax
Sub: Alpine SWR-1241D Type-R 12" DVC Sub (4-ohm per voice coil)
Power Cap: Stinger Pro Digital Chrome cap
Total cost of equipment, custom vinyl-covered enclosure with amps, sub, cap and fuseblock flush mounted, custom door pods, wiring, fuses, labor, etc... is right around $3k.

wow nice!

the other day i was at a pretty high end car audio place. i was listening to some jazz on a set of Focal component speakers (the yellow kevlar ones with the inverted titanium tweeter). wow.....i was floored
