Yamaha Announces New YAS-108 Sound Bar
Following on from Yamaha's sales success with the YAS-107, Yamaha has today announced its successor, imaginatively named the YAS-108. The sound bar sports a slim design with rounded ends, and can be mounted on a wall care of its built-in keyholes or can be placed on a cabinet or shelf. Yamaha claims the new sound bar has an 'elegant' design (at a height of only 2 inches), is built around a single chassis, has simple TV connectivity, and 'packs powerful performance' at an accessible price of $199.99.
TV mating is as you might expect, via HDMI, optical and analog inputs, and ARC enables stereo and multi-channel audio from over-the-air broadcasts, and TV-based streaming apps. The YAS-108 also includes DTS Virtual:X 3D surround technology without the need for separate LCR, surround and height speakers, according to Yamaha.
Despite the unit's compact size, Yamaha assures consumers that 'loud and deep bass' is delivered from its inherent all-in-one construction, without the need to purchase a separate subwoofer. There are two built-in subwoofers and a bass reflex port, which play off against two further dome tweeters and two woofers.
Bluetooth functionality enables music to be played from up to two simultaneously connected mobile devices, meaning you can switch back and forth quickly between each, without having to disconnect one before playing the other. Yamaha's 'Clear Voice' tech also ensures dialogue clarity from movies and TV shows where competing music and effects could potentially swamp or overwhelm narration or spoken word.
