VIZIO, Inc. has today announced the inclusion of the NBC app to VIZIO SmartCast TV. This is the latest addition to a roster of top available apps on the intuitive home screen platform, which already incorporates Amazon Video, Crackle, FandangoNOW, Hulu, iHeartRadio, Netflix, Pluto TV, Vudu and XUMO. With just a tap on the remote, viewers will can access their favorite content from popular apps, and SmartCast TV is available on all P-Series, M-Series and E-Series Ultra HD displays.

Users will now be able to browse and stream installments of their favorite NBC hit TV shows on their VIZIO SmartCast displays, including This is Us, Will & Grace and The Good Place.

"One of the biggest benefits of the VIZIO SmartCast platform is its rapidly expanding catalog of streaming TV shows and movies, powered by over a thousand mobile apps," said Bill Baxter, SVP of Product Development and Engineering, VIZIO. "VIZIO is continuously expanding the line-up by adding popular favorites, like the NBC app. We're excited to give consumers access to the NBC app on SmartCast TV so they can stream episodes of their favorite hit TV series at any time."

An included free VIZIO SmartCast Mobile app for iOS and Android transforms mobile devices into the ultimate touchscreen remote, and a new navigational menu allows users to browse easily SmartCast TV from their mobile device.

Although the mobile app might appeal, I doubt whether access to NBC shows will tip HTF readers over the edge to committing to a VIZIO SmartCast TV over another brand. If you're a user already, let us know your thoughts below.

I only use the Smartcast apps on my Vizio M70-D3 as a backup to my Roku Ultra, and if I want to watch something on Vudu in UHD + Dolby Vision. Otherwise, I use the Roku Ultra, as it has all the apps I am interested in, and supports Amazon in HDR10 -- which Vizio's Smartcast app does not. With the Vizio, I still need to cast the NHL and PBS apps from an Android device, which I find cumbersome.

I did load the NBC app on the Roku a while back so I could watch the first episode of the new Will and Grace. I didn't care for the show, and don't watch anything else on NBC, so the app hasn't been used since.
