Vertical "bands of light' on direct view TV? (1 Viewer)

I moved a while ago and here in the new place, my direct view TV is displaying a highly annoying characteristic; two bands of increased brightness vertically placed on the screen. It's a 32 inch widescreen model, and the bands are located on both sides of the screen, somewhat lopsided to the right.
Anyone have an idea why this is occurring and how I should go about fixing it?
The problem is more pronounced when viewing DVD's or the SVHS VCR via the S-Video cable that connects through the receiver, but it is also visible in a lesser degree when viewing plain TV via the antenna input.
I'd appreciate ideas on how to deal with this, it is very annoying.
