Toshiba xxH81 540p upconversion solution? (1 Viewer)

You may or may not know that this year's Toshiba 16x9 sets upconvert all inputs to 540p. Some say it causes a softening of the picture.

I understand that if you're running an HTPC, you can set the output to 1080i which, as I understand it, would be native to the set (since it's a multiple of 540).

So, it the information about the HTPC is true, why hasn't any manufacturer put out a standalone DVD player with selectable output? Wouldn't that solve all out problems?

You could also feed the set 540p to bypass the sets line doubling since 540p looks exactly the same to the TV as 1080i.

I read in one of the A/V magazines just this morning that Samsung (if I remember correctly) will be releasing a DVD player with both 720p and 1080i output.
