I think I'll use my second on AUDITION. It is a favorite of mine, and coincidentally, I just rewatched my DVD of it last night for the first time in months, and I'd forgotten how much its messes with your head.

Also, I thought you didn't like BLAIR WITCH, Erik? :) Anyhow, I've never really thought of it as mind bending, but I can see how it would be.

Glad to see someone nominated OPEN YOUR EYES!

I remember liking LIQUID SKY, but I haven't seen that one in ages.

Third
Being John Malkovich

To be honest, I really need to give BJM another chance as I didn't like it too much and thought the humor is the kind that sounds a lot funnier on paper and in your head. But yes, it does f**k, excuse me, plays mind games with your head.

Nah Erik, I mean I could've sworn you said some bad things about it in my horror tournament, but I'm obviously confusing you with someone else. :)

Nominate:

In the Mouth of Madness-Most of what makes this movie so effectively scary is the way the Cthulu type stuff not only screws with John Trent's mind but the audience to some degree as well. Very chilling movie. I am surprised that no one nominated it yet.

Third:

The Matrix

Great nom, JenB! I'm surprised I didn't think of it myself, as Carpenter's my favorite director, and ITMOM is one of his best films.

Great nom with EL TOPO too, Ric!

Lew, Gabe already seconded Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas so your second is probably a third.

Either Ric and Lew have a totally different definition of "mindfuck" than me, or else their brains are easy lays. :D

When I think of mindfuck movies, it has to arouse a feeling of incomprehension, a sense of confusion, a "what the hell did I just watch?" feeling. The Doors, Psycho, The Vanishing, A Clockwork Orange, etc. -- though they may be slightly unusual, are quite clear.

Maybe it would be helpful if Justin could clarify what he's looking for.

I thought of some more "suggestions":
Spiritual Kung Fu
Sisters
Phantasm
Carnival of Souls
Black Orpheus
Pink Flamingos (maybe)
Heavy Metal (maybe)

Second: Dead Man and The Sixth Sense (don't feel bad, Jan, I never saw it coming either!)

Chuck: How does Koyaanisqatsi(a movie I love) screw with your mind?

Edit: Nevermind re Sixth Sense! :b

I admit I wasn't too confident about that nomination, it's been a long time since I've seen it. Still, it's a pretty unusual film, isn't it? You're not quite sure what to think of it.
