Sugar DVD: what was changed so th DVD received a PG-13 rating? (1 Viewer)

I'm quite disappointed to find out that apparently the DVD has been censored to get a PG-13 instead of an R which the theatrical version has. Apparently the Blu-ray version is not edited. Could someone please tell me what was removed?

I haven't seen either version on disc, but it's odd that the Blu-ray is listed as "Not Rated".

According to the DVD Talk review: "Sugar has been re-cut from its original R rating to a PG-13 version for its standard-def release. While these alterations are certainly minimal (a few isolated profanities and a quick shot of a porn movie playing on a hotel television), the PG-13 version does not represent the film as it was released to theaters; its creation is apparently an attempt to open the film up to a family audience. At any rate, the good news is that the Blu-ray disc presents the film in its original, unaltered form."

I'm not condoning the cuts but it does seem as if this was on the cusp of PG-13 to begin with.

It definitely is. I watched the Unrated version and I can't imagine it would take much of anything to get a PG-13 -- there's hardly any profanity in the film at all and the porno clip that's described (which is playing on a hotel room TV) isn't even shown for more than a second or two, max. Definitely not a case of the movie being heavily tampered with, if it actually received an R rating to begin with it would be the "lightest R" I've probably ever seen.

I didn't see the theatrical version. IMDB says that the theatrical version was rated R, but the trailer on the BD disc says that it was rated PG-13. The BD is unrated, but I would have rated it PG-13.

This of course begs the question -- if the theatrical version was rated R, why is the BD unrated?

I haven't opened my disk yet. I have hundreds of movies I haven't watched yet so I probably couldn't justify shelling out $19 for a censored movie when the Blu-ray appears not to have been censored. I would eventually get the Blu-ray if this is indeed the case. Thanks for the input and let me know if there is anything definite. Was planning on watching this one soon since I love good baseball movies.
