Shorting straps for my towers are MIA , and will be using old receiver that has spring clips which I'm pretty sure will not accept 2 twists of 12 gauge. Other option , run 12 gauge to bottom posts and run small length of 12 gauge up to top posts. I assume this will be the same as shorting straps? Any negatives to this method? Any other options? I dont want to pull out the 18 gauge wire again. thx

Could actually sound better, depending on what quality your shorting jumpers were (I assume you're talking about bi-wirable speakers, and you're missing the jumpers that connect the two sets of binding posts).

... or else just use a nice, thick cable and peel off the insulation an inch or so off the end and thread it through both sets of speaker terminals on your bi-wirable speaker...?
